The nearly year-long quarantine has left me feeling a bit empty at times- after working on my freelance art and chores during the day, afterward I feel the desire to do something creative and fun, but nothing catches my interest consistently. But I don’t want to go to bed that early either. I want something I can somewhat actively engage with(like videogames) but I don't’ want something very skill based or requires a lot of thought.
Last year I’d been playing pokemon competitively for a time, and it’s certainly something I could jump back into- or an online trading Card Game, but usually these require quite a lot of thinking, and as hobbies they don’t quite line up with my ultimate goals(even though they’re fun!).
Then I recalled a hobby I engaged in back in 2017! I even used to stream myself doing it- and that was an RPG maker! I had the VX Ace version, which is rather old(came out around 2010/2012) but it was easy enough to use! I always imagine my stories in an RPG format, so I think it’d be good to make an attempt to bring some of them to life, even if it’s in a basic JRPG way. I seem to always come back to JRPGs in some way or another- they inspired me a lot when I was young, and wanted to make my own back in the day too. Now that I can, I just need to make sure I don’t get myself too intimidated and quit before I even make something.
So I installed it on my computer, as I hadn’t touched it since 2017 on my laptop, so sadly I didn’t have my old game files. But I didn’t have any expectations weighing on me for this- I just wanted to dust it off out of pure self interest. I have brushed up on a tutorial playlist and familiarized myself with the basics over the course of a few days this past week, hooray! Now the question remains, what story am I going to tell with it…? It’d be wise to do something small, so maybe I’ll do something dorky and cute with Artie and Monty starring in it.
I dunno when it will be done(most likely before the end of this year? Hmm, hold me to it!) When I do finish it though you can bet I’ll share it here first!
