Nuki News #50 - The Year so Far...

Yeah, wow, hard to think it’s April already, a week into it too! I wasn’t so sure if I’d continue to do quarterly reviews for my progress after last year, but I’m still in the learning stages of doing this art business stuff and I think it’ll help others down the line. Plus, giving myself the opportunity to look back at how I’m doing should help keep me in perspective- and little celebratory ‘hooray’ because this is the 50th Nuki News post!

So, going into this year my goal was to make sure I at least break even and can eventually support myself as much as I would’ve if I’d kept my day job. I’m relieved, and ever surprised to say I managed to do so in the first month- and it’s only gone up since then! I’m still amazed and a bit flabbergasted that this is reality for me. I’m actually doing what I love for a living, and I have you reading this to thank! Every bit of support has led to this, and I’ll keep working to make sure it’s worth your time and attention. The last thing I want to do is rest on my laurels or get too comfortable. A key part of this is staying conscious and mindful of my work and where I’m putting my attention though.

Currently the way things are going with my time, is the first 10 days of the month I’m doing mostly gifts, patreon-focused stuff, and personal time off. I’ve been usually using my free time to get some practice done, if I want to continue this path I’ll need to make sure my art is as sharp as can be. Getting lazy or letting my pen dull down isn’t going to help me be able to assist those who need help. I’m already getting questions from other furry creatives wondering how they can shift into doing this for a living too. Fortunately I’ve kinda documented my journey with these NukiNews posts, but a goal of mine is that after maybe 4 years of doing this I’ll have enough knowledge and prowess to be a good resource for other furry creatives.

As a side note- life does not wait. It was a damn good thing I quit my job when I did, because I found out not too long ago the company I was working for decided to abandon ship altogether. That’s right- had I stayed working there, I’d be out of a job anyway, merely a few months later. I know myself enough that if I decided to stay at my job in December instead, I’dve been miserable and way more stressed because I wouldn’t have gotten 4 months of experience under my belt doing this full time.

Compared to how last year began, the start of this year has been much much better. I’ve been seeing more and more friends on social media stating they’ve gotten vaccines over the last week, I’m hopeful I’ll get to join them sooner than later too. We’re probably past the worst of all this pandemic nonsense, I hope. Take care and stay safe yall, and thanks for your support!

Thanks so much Day!

Artie

I'd certainly love to be able to go out again! I count the stars I decided to go to cons in 2019. Dunno if 2021 cons will happen, depends on how successful the vaccinations go!

Artie

Glad to hear you got out of there, especially with them going down like that. So glad to also have the vaccine roll outs too. Maybe cons will be a thing soon? Here's hoping to a great rest of the year!

Danuki

Time is the most important resource you can have! Good to see you using it wisely lol sucks about your company glad you got out when you did^^
