Nuki News #63 - Look Ma, I'm in 3D!

The future is here! Apparently. Around this time last year I was looking for fursuit makers- I did find some makers to put in bookmarks to check when they are open again, but goodness there’s a lot to consider. That and quarantine being the case, I felt maybe it’s a good opportunity to delve into the world of, well, virtuality. This Nuki News I’ll be talking about my initial forray into the non-tactile digital scape haha.

This came about because I saw the AMAZING work Izanagi did for my friend Blitzit; and he had it rigged up to be a sort of ‘V-Tuber/Facerig’ so it was tracking and following his actual movements by using a webcam. If you’re not familiar with this stuff, it’s kinda taken the internet by storm since last year.

There’s a free software Blitzit, Izanagi and I use called VSeeFace! It’s what tracks your facial movements and expressions to translate it to your 3D model. Alls you need is a webcam and a model in .vrm format that is rigged for facial animations, basically! I’m not here to go over the technicals, but I did spend a good few hours figuring out how to use the software for myself.

So now I have a cool way to make my stream have a bit more of ‘me’ in it! I never quite cared for webcams or showing my actual face ever. But this is like...wearing a virtual fursuit. Of course, Artie the tanuki is just me, but, well, furry, haha! So you’re getting me how I am, you just get to see me move around and be flustered more, or vibin’ to whatever music I’m playing, haha.

I’ve only done 1 test stream so far, only managing to be about 2 hours long, but, it was real fun to have another way to express myself to people watching. I feel having a ‘V-tubing’ model won’t necessarily make my streams great by themselves of course- people who come to my streams seem to have enjoyed them a lot without it, but I hope it enhances their enjoyment, haha.

I definitely feel this opens opportunities for me to get to know more furs in the community too, I’ve started a VR Chat account as well, though time will tell how frequently I’ll be using it, hahaha. I’m gunna try though! I want to thank you for supporting me this year too, patreon support has helped me a lot and make sure I can do all this, things I love and enjoy, each and every day I can.
