patreon

I've just seen yet another Patreon announcement. Not my blog with the same name, no, a genuine blog about patreon from someone else. And it left me somewhat uncomfortable. Money was invented as a mean to quantify worth. As a general rule, what is pricier is also better than whatever cheaper alternative. But those cheaper alternative also exist because not everyone can afford to put a lot of money on the table for what they need or want. Following that train of thought, are we to assume that the people willing or able to put a high sum of money on the table are worthier than the broke ass bastards who cant ? Certainly. I mean it is only natural to reward with either a better product or more of the product those who put more money into it. But that is iffy with me. At least as it concerns patreon. I don't want to put in place a ladder of gratitude with different rewards depending on the amount pledged. It makes sense on paper, it's logical. Is it fair ? It's questionable. Dem poor peasant just had to work harder to win more, right ? That's easy to say, I'd be more encline to affirm that no, it isn't fair. The same amount donated can mean different things given the economical context of the donator. To me it just seems wrong to be more thankful to those who gave more than those gave little but gave anyway, that little might represent a lot. I don't offer rewards on there and I won't. It's decided. I have stated before that I didn't want rewards to be sales in disguise. A donation is a donation, you should not expect anything in return but gratitude and the assurance that whatever you donated for will happen. In my case comics. Your money goes towards the comic, thus you're only entitled to want more pages. Those rewards do create a gradual ladder of gratitude that does not seem respectful of those not willing or able to give more than a little, for whatever reasons. In the end it is a donation, it is an amount of money you never had to give away in the first place but decided to from the kindness of your heart, or more precisely the kindness of your wallet. Everyone can have their own opinion on the matter. My opinion is that I will not bother to respect anyone differently depending on the amount of money given, everyone is entitled to the same thing. Which also means I'm not going to do jackpoop about rewards, YAY. LAZYNESS PREVAILS. And I get to write this journal which boosts the fact that yes ! I do have a patreon and you can donate to it ! But I'm not going to link to it because it makes it looks like I'm actually not just shamelessly advertising me under a guise of self-righteousness. Which I am not anyway; even if it's not particularly articulate still I use a semi-colon because YES I TOTALLY AM ARTICULATE YOU GUYZ), I genuinely wanted to write this. But do doubt me just in case.
