Shattering the Illusion: Exorcism and the Truth Behind Possessions

Here's how it starts. Maybe it's your mother or maybe your sister. She starts complaining of headaches and strange tingling sensations in different parts of her body.

Her discomfort escalates. She complains of hallucinations; she starts hearing voices.

Then the seizures begin. She has trouble walking and eating. And maintaining control of her bladder.

The seizures become violent. She thrashes around her bed for hours. You try to restrain her, but she suddenly has impossible strength.

Her moods become erratic. She swings between fear and anger and sadness. Her speech becomes ragged and deep. She has sudden outbursts where she barks out phrases in Latin and Aramaic; languages she doesn't speak.

Then, for no reason at all, the symptoms suddenly stop. And she's back to her normal self. Frightened and exhausted, but it's still her.

Her doctor can't find anything wrong with her. Psychiatrists and neurologists can't explain what's happening.

This scenario happens to hundreds of families every year from all over the world; of every different culture and religion.

And when this *does* happen to someone you love, and there's nobody else to call; you call an exorcist.

great story, I believe all people can make their own reality.

David Leatherman

I believe people can be possessed by demonic beings and other spirits. I have seen it many times with my own eyes.

Show idea (IDK if this is where I should put this) - I recently heard there was werewolf mania before the witch trial mania. I had no idea and thought this might be interesting to cover.

Elizabeth Dennis

They should have been the exclusive sponsor for this episode.

As a Muslim, we believe in Djinn. I personally saw an exorcism session for a friend of mine. He's a short not strong guy, but he managed to carry 2 heavy strong men's, and throw them away as if they were made of feathers. He started talking in strange language with deep scary voice. And the the room turned into a freezer. He started to vomit black sticky liquid with long heir. Now he's a married man with beautiful children. We will never forget that night.

Ebrahim AL-Bishri

Well done.

KrysBeez

Excellent consideration of all sides of this subject. I'm still trying to process what happened years ago. I accidentally witnessed an on-the-spot exorcism of a nice older lady by her priest after Sunday service. He saw something in her and commanded it to leave. What happened next blew away my concepts about reality.

Patricia Meek

I think that there is so much out there that we cannot perceive. The spiritual realm is an example of something we as humans can't detect with our senses. That doesn't mean it isn't there. I believe in God and demons - they are all too real and not to be trifled with. Great job as always, AJ. Love how you don't pick a side and just present the facts. Love this channel.

Just joined and became a member and Patreon. I operate The Virtual Pew and truly appreciate your approach to religious topics and of course everything else. In the last 3 months I think I have binged everything and now caught up. Gotta subscribe to Heckle Fish channel

Mike Furches

Omg, Hecklefish, "Anal ease" had me laughing so hard, I cried. I haven't laughed so hard that I cried in years!!! AJ, you are the best!

Elena Diamond

I'm so excited! My first Patreon video

Denise Estes

I swear some of the kids I work with at my psych hospital could use an exorcism. I’m going to learn the first few lines of The Rites of Exorcism in Latin and walk around whispering it….see if I get any reactions. I just might.

DS_the_RN

LOVE the tie-in with the new movie with Russell Crowe!!! Nice work!!!

Believe in it and seen it, and greatly appreciate the honest examination.

When I went through Confirmation many, many years ago, our Pastor taught us how to perform an exorcism. A lot less ritual and pomp than the Catholic method. The major ingredients were that you had to address the demon, invoke Jesus Christ, and command it to leave. Strong faith was also important, of course.

Timotheus

Are you sure the explanation of systems at the beginning isn't that time of the month. Seems more like it!

Kevin Via

I'm with you. This one hit hard, having adopted 2 siblings w/ severe mental health issues. At one point a friend even suggested looking into exorcism. I dismissed it. Things didn't end well for one of the kids, the other remains to be seen but not looking great. I can't help but think, what if I *had* looked into exorcism? Would anything be better? I doubt it, but *what if*?

Jim Hoffman

lol

Steven MG

Seezend with evil... Can I get that on a mug please!!

Jeff Betsch

I have seen proof there is something to all this and know of eye-witness accounts of the unexplained from family members. "There are more things in heaven and earth than are explained in your books." Shakespeare. Great show and great handling of it. Let's hope there's no need to exorcise this episode from DEMONitization! ;)

Mister Larson

Didn’t Iron Man die overcoming evil? (Thanos) They say he just snapped🫰

Michael Young

and that smug look on his face!

Sendrius Telt

Imho, the answer is always both.

Believing in possession relates to many of the cases TWF highlights. Most can be debunked; it's the 1%, the 5%, the 10% that can't that are the most interesting. I was mildly surprised that Ronald Hunkeler supposedly admitting to his girlfriend before his death that he made up the exorcist story didn't receive much more media attention. One problem though: He was already deceased, so the admission is second hand. He was a NASA engineer who spent his entire life trying to hide he was the exorcist child. He would and could never admit it was real. Not saying it was, just noting we simply don't know and the comments by his girlfriend doesn't change that. Unrelated, an acquaintance, since passed, was a demonologist. (I never asked if he had business cards with that title, but I hope he did!) He came from a long line of demonologists, including a great uncle who was an exorcist for the Catholic church. There was no question he fully believed. I found his stories fascinating. Not because I believed, but because he believed. We are often searching for our own faith in other people's stories and experiences.

The power of Hecklefish compels you. The power of Hecklefish compels you. The power of Hecklefish compels you!

MikeD

Yet another great episode, I, myself am a believer. I believe in God, his son, the second coming, and yes demons. See you tonight!

John Edgeworth

I’ll be wanting KFC all day now from the Colonel… with his wee beady little eyes.

NorthwoodsJen

Great video, and loved the message at the end (as usual). Which side am I on? Team Iron Man!

David Alan Gay

What'd I say?

Bobbie Zarate

Look at AJ and the crew, sneaking the new video in at 3am😏🥰

Bobbie Zarate

Sometimes I wonder if consciousness really does create reality and these things are a result of that. People believe in demons that sit on your chest during sleep paralysis. I've had sleep paralysis and saw a creature but I had the advantage of already hearing other's experiences about it previously. Told myself it isn't real, I'm experiencing sleep paralysis and that I'd be back to normal soon. In that instant, the hallucinations stopped, I just observed the room and began moving a few minutes later.

Josh Jones

So many variables; we are still in infancy regarding paranormal research; heck, regarding everything…🤔

Benoit Dube

Another excellent show. My own belief system is much more complicated then, is this true or false. We've seen videos or even witnessed things that the physical world says can't happen. Does that mean these things didn't happen, or that our concepts of what are real are simply too limited to understand?

Kazren

Great episode !

Jeff Pierce

Great episode!!!!

Brian Mcandrew

Was worth the 8 minute wait to see what that SICK fish had to say... lol

Steven MG

As a Christian pastor, I really really love this episode.

Jon Daniels

I haven't watched it through yet, I just want to thank you (or Patreon)for the closed captioning (I don't recall seeing the ability on past videos)

Sean Story

That was a great episode. I agree with your conclusion. I'm a skeptic, but I've seen things that make me think there is more than we can currently prove.

Tal Vayas

Deliverance is truly real and was a huuuuugggeeeee part of Jesus' ministry. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Braian Cano

Great show, really liked the closing. Which side am I on?

Wade Heidmann

Awesome show! And thanks to Hecklefish for the dinner plans!

Charles Caldwell

Thank you for another excellent, thought-provoking episode. I grew up in St Louis and at one time lived near the Alexian Brothers hospital. I don't know if it was truth or urban legend, but the rumor was that the floor the "exorcist boy" was treated on was closed up and never used or opened up again.

Mellie

Great episode, as always. You debunked several of the reports in this story, but what about the one where the boy walked backward up the wall and flipped over? Was that report ever debunked?

Fletcher Thompson

Fantastic episode, good job. I now understand why my mother-in-law acts the way she does. Gonna call a priest.

Michael Tinney

Saw the demon house documentary, very scary….great episode again people…

Rob Haarlem

Great episode AJ, HF, and The WF Team! I love that you tackled this subject! Having been raised in a Roman Catholic family, I rejected the Church's memes by the time I was 8 as complete horse pucky. Mythology and history are very useful but dogma, IMO, is not, and no one has sovereignty over your soul or your body unless you give them your permission. That doesn't stop people from attempting to do idiotic things, but we do have 100 percent responsibility for what we attract into our lives and how we react. Not taking that position leaves you open psychologically and emotionally to all manner of nonsense, religious and otherwise.

B. Roxy Rogers

Amazing episode. Kudos!

Whiskey Tango-Foxtrot

Thanks so much for this episode.

Keri Holmes Rojas

Another killer ep by the team at the Why Files 👍 Do I believe? I'm not sure, but I certainly don't feel the need to try and invoke spirits/ demons or fiddle around with a ouija board, I feel like I'm gonna err on the side of caution there 🤷‍♂️😂 Sending positive vibes.

SGW4K

I’ve been rubbing my hands together patiently waiting for a paranormal subject, as usual AJ & H you knocked it out of the park! 👏🏼. It’s strange that I believe, I’m an atheist and a medical professional ….. but I’ve always believed there are demonic entities out there somewhere …….. shiver 😖

James Winn

Jolly good show sir! Jolly good!

Seb

Great episode. This subject fascinates me. Hecklefish on top form

rob denton

"Anal ease" my goodness. Hecklefish, I'm buying you a drink.

Tom Treutlein

LOVE IT! Got a couple chills here and there. Definitely a skeptic myself, but hey, ya never know. Also love scary movies. :)

Matthew Sidner

So what about things like levitation and beds sliding on their own and wet footprints and such? That's not a psychological disorder, that's something else

Jody Whitmarsh

Brilliant episode! And the ending was right on point. As always you totally nailed the topic! :)

Drew Lane

Awesome episode! Im a skeptic when it comes to possessions but its fun to watch the scary movies.

John and Melissa Jett

Thank you sir for all the hard work you do. Just know it brings enlightenment and knowledge to all of us!

Chase Froelich

If you don't believe in demons, look at Washington DC, and maybe that make you a believer.

David Butler

Being part of your patreon pleases me endlessly. You are also a kind but fair lord 😁

Sam

Fantastic show as always

jcp 83 Plevin

Wrong. It is subtle. Sometimes takes decades. Sometimes only a mood change. Withdrawal. Stop planting seeds of extremes. You are not an expert in demonology. What you are mentioning in your description is Hollywoodesque

J Hernandez

less than 3 me some WF

ruckrow

Quick question for AJ & HF. Is it better for you if I watch on YouTube or Patreon? Thanks for the fabulous content.

Oh lol 1st ?
