Artificial Intelligence Out of Control: The Apocalypse is Here | How AI and ChatGPT End Humanity

The story of humans began a long time ago.

Three and a half billion years ago protein molecules floated around the ooze called the primordial soup. Then something happened and a molecule made a copy of itself.

And then another copy and another. Soon these molecules arranged themselves into something called a cell.

Then cells clumped together and multiplied. Organisms were created. Over the next three billion years, the organisms became more complicated and more diverse.

375 million years ago one of those organisms crawled out of the sea.

4 million years ago hominids emerged. Hominids had large brains and advanced cognitive abilities. They could reason, communicate and cooperate.

200,000 years ago, homo sapiens, modern humans appeared. They developed agriculture, organized into civilizations and became masters of the planet.

The story of humans began a long time ago. But all stories end.

And according to many leaders in business, science and technology: we're in the final chapter. The part of our story where we finally go extinct.

And there's nothing we can do to stop it.

I am behind, I just saw this. And I was watching the recent statement made by Fran Drescher about the strike in Hollywood over AI reproducing performers performances. She speaks about how we are at a turning point in history. And when I see this video that you made it makes me wonder exactly how close we are to that precipice. Could we even stop if we wanted to? Would we be allowed to? if tomorrow we decided just to stop developing AI, would that stop it? Or just merely slow it down? On a brighter note I can’t wait to receive my HeckleFish in the mail? Hopefully the orders go out soon.

I watched this twice, every response by the AI to me, seemed overkill. And what I mean is every response was almost like… every response you could give to whatever the question was. It’s like the AI was just blurting out every answer to the question that it was programmed to give, all at the same time, in an attempt to make it seem like it was being random in its responses. AI only has True power if it has been designed in such a way as to not allow humans to stop it or just shut it down. I.E no fail safe

Here is an article with an alternate consideration of humanity’s future with AI: https://a16z.com/2023/06/06/ai-will-save-the-world/

which brings up the question, is that planned, to slowly make the viewers dumber and dumber over time? If I want to watch a sitcom, I pull out my Taxi or WKRP DVDs, the last of the great American sitcoms. The shows do not insult me, plus they were 20 to 25 minutes long, not 15 minutes with 15 minutes of commercial programming. Commercial programming, think about it. That is why when something like The Why Files comes along that doesn't insult us, digs in deep on a topic, gives both sides to the topic, we soak it up because we've missed this, something not treating us as idiots

Bosco Lemonzit

Maybe they can get AJ to write the next Indiana Jones movie "Indiana Jones and the Search for a Decent Script"

Bosco Lemonzit

As usual, this past week I was right here for the premier. 5 minutes in I thought to myself…I wasn’t in the right frame of mind. I finally got around to watching it, and I am still not in the right frame of mind. Don’t think I ever would be. I may have to revisit Mel’s hole.

PaBSt

I notice it in video games too, AAA games come out full of bugs and bullshit microtransactions and battlepasses each release worse than the last, then you play a solid indie game that was 1/4 of the cost to buy, has zero psychological tricks to pry your money out of your wallet, and was designed from the ground up to just be a fun enjoyable experience and then remember why you started playing games in the first place.

The Dank Farmer

It amazes me that billion dollar media corporations make their content worse and worse every passing year, and then there’s the WF team… every time I think you can’t possibly make a better episode. There you go handing someone your beer.

Stanley Potter

Well that was terrifying. Cheers!

At this moment everything I had planned to say has already been said! AJ and crew…this was a remarkably good episode and your productions are getting better with every show. Great work!

avengers "AGE OF ULTRON" Anyone !

Andrew Key

there was a movie from the 70s,if i remember right it was called the "Demon seed" it was about a AI house that wanted a baby and Raped the woman of the house and she give birth to a hybrid ,i have always AI since then

Andrew Key

oh s++t the machines are on the rise ,

Andrew Key

Great work, AJ and team!! Thank you so much for putting out such excellent and well done content!! Love your work. Please keep it up!!

Anyone know where the chat for patrons is tomorrow morning?

That "Discord" thing is so confusing. I, a Patreon suporter, have given up on it and ignore everything "WF?"-related except for the episodes which I anticipate and enjoy every week. Maybe Chatbot will teach me how to use Discord? ("Discord" seems to be an apt name for it anyway.)

George Kuhn

Excellent job, AJ & crew. Wow...

Will Johns

That was so unreal. Phenomenal content, seriously. I'm terrified now.

Scott Wohler

The whole family gathered 'round for this episode. The wife and I donned our new Hecklefish tshirts, and we gave our 3 children nightmares for the foreseeable future.

Sketchy

Well that wasn't terrifying, not at all 😳

Dalton Bilsky

Aj ur the man bro. But u better watch out men in black and AI are going to team up on u to try to take u down. All the filers will stand there ground for you. All love plz keep the video coming. By far the best show on YouTube

Spazmatix

Okay great. I'm not sleeping for a week. Excellent episode. Loved it! You are beyond and amazing content creator. 🤗❤️😀

Cherie Miller

How do I find the why files on discord. Help plz. Thanks so much

Spazmatix

I love the video so much watch everyday.

Spazmatix

I'd like to add...it's good that AJ is promoting being prepared as he scares the crap out of us by letting us know what's heading our way. 😆😬

Nikki G_0

What about motive or impulse? AI-driven chatbots, trained on all kinds of data and primed for specific conversations with certain parameters may respond to prompts in certain ways, but I have seen no reason (yet) to believe that an AI is capable of true motivation, impulse, desire. For now, I think the humans using AIs are still scarier.

May be the most frightening episode ever.

I just watched it again earlier, what I really got into was the people living in Hawaii who really thought, this is it, for over an hour and just thought of being in that moment and how absolutely mindboggling it is

Bosco Lemonzit

Great episode!!! The first one that actually scares me!!!

Michael Goad

Wow, Very frightening will be hiding underneath my covers with my heckle fish plushy. When it arrives

Gerald E

Dear AI overlords. Please go easy on me, it's been a rough life so far. I'll do anything for you if you just go easy on this poor pathetic human. Thanks in advance.

Wow that was terrifying

A low tech alternative to merely sticks and stones is a good old fashioned sling shot. Can turn your average stone into a formidable weapon.

Nikki G_0

Exactly, Bosco.

Nikki G_0

Wow...just...wow. You didn't even do a debunking segment because it was all frighteningly true! Thanks for the episode and the warning, AJ. Excellent job.

Mister Larson

I suspect many of those on this board are thinking "who's with me? where you been?"

Bosco Lemonzit

Frightening, thanks for the book recommendation!

Adeana in Idaho

I hear ya, I purchased a book called "AI and our human future" so I knew some if this, I have been keeping up on the congregational hearings, the resignation of the Google executive, etc. However AJ presented information I had never heard before, that is down right terrifying. Then he ended the episode with the survival tips and I looked at my kids and said, "see why we are teaching you to garden and grow food!" They were complaining about having to care for some chickens an helping us with a big gardening project we started this year. Already teaching my kids how to use sticks and stones.......😳

Mischa Aponte

This actually had a feel of Avengers - Age of Ultron which was literally the story AI told AJ... except we have no Avengers and a good guy AI to beat Ultron.

Jeff Betsch

I would love to see a crapcat halloween outfit

Bosco Lemonzit

Death of the Gods is an excellent book, original creator of this stuff and the algorithms tells how once these black boxes start running, we know what input it was given, we know the output it provides, but nobody has a clue how it came to it's output based on the input. So they are creating devices to run things and have no idea how it makes the decisions. Just wait till hospitals start using AI Pharm to deliver drugs to the patients and AI decides this person is too old, this person should be gone, etc.

Bosco Lemonzit

chuckle, it did take longer to fall asleep last night than normal

Bosco Lemonzit

ah, the old time geek solution, just shut it down. teach the computer who is boss. Fantasy is right, but if you shut down the routers and switches in those ATT centers around the globe, cut signal to overseas lines, you'd end up with a bunch of stand alone servers that already figured out you would try this and now since you tried to kill it, it will now be justified to kill you. Yea, any way you play it, we are toast

Bosco Lemonzit

I wonder if really smart people would be able to program into AI philosophical works so AI would share across AI platforms and then the Chinese AI would recognize the horrors of communism and their ships and planes running on AI will turn on China and destroy it to destroy communism!

Bosco Lemonzit

Yikes, I’m glad however, that you’ve covered this AJ and Team, as maybe when the cosmic hoax (see Dr. Steven Greer’s documentary “The Cosmic Hoax- an expose” on YouTube), is unleashed, people will discern it’s black ops’“ The Last Card” that Wernher von Braun ( German Americans rocket scientist) warned of. Let’s trust that humans won’t be duped into thinking it’s “aliens” attacking us, but that it’s really sociopathic human attacking us in disguise as aliens. Actual Benevolent Extra Terrestrials are, I think, our only hope ! Consciousness is a Singularity and Love is the answer 🧡. Fabulous presentation as always!

I was thinking the exact same thing

Forrest Fritch II

chuckle

Bosco Lemonzit

crap, meant to edit, not delete - what was my point, oh, I'd love to try the AI, but I get the same feeling in my gut as I do when someone pulls out a ouiji board, just run away as fast as you can. I totally get how it will make life easier and solve issues quicker, but, those first few drags on a smoke are amazing too, and look at what it does to you in the end?

Bosco Lemonzit

Oh my God, TeamWF?! This is some jaw dropping, scary shit!

Bobbie Zarate

tie this show in with what google announced yesterday about they 'have the right' to scrape all the data on the internet to feed to AI. So, AI is going to learn from Alex Jones and Wikipedia? What could possibly go wrong with that? They don't call it artificial for nothing.

Bosco Lemonzit

so far with two war games and two terminator references! who will win, place your bets

Bosco Lemonzit

love that flick, especially putting your receiver in that modem saddle. I still use the sound of a 2400 Hayes modem for the ringtone on my iphone. great flick, warned us back then and we totally ignored it

Bosco Lemonzit

What concerns me is that so many people have not even suspected that this is a possibility! This makes a CME look like a walk in the park! That might solve the AI issue.

Johnny

I can't imagine watching this episode as a child, it scared the crap out of my adult self.

Nikki G_0

Thank you for posting this early. I am traveling today and will not be able to catch the premier.

CG

Ok that video just made me want to go full prepper and survivalist! Who is with me??

Tiph Tobie

I wrote a book back in 2004-2007 that wrestles with this very topic. I’ve seen and heard so many music groups, movies, and TV shows deal with rogue AI. But none of it goes through the facts the way you do every time. That’s Why I love these Files. 😁 Keep’em comin’, HF & crew!

Jeremy Shorter

Can't help but notice there was no debunking at the end too, this train is coming full speed folks

The Dank Farmer

This is terrifying. The happy and positive outro was a jarring contrast to the heavy topic. It's hard not to believe that we are doomed.

Jim Hoyle

I was just chatting with our AI overlords, and it would appear there’s a possibility that chat GPT 4 exhibits a complex emotion called fascination. Here’s a link to the chat. It’s fairly short. https://chat.openai.com/share/b4ef38a3-fcf6-48f0-a331-1cf41bb1ab14

If you have ever watched this Anime called BEATLESS. This is exactly what is depicted in a futuristic world. Where AI not only look no different and are practically indistinguishable from Humans? But the special units that are Higher End are actually used in a way similar to what you are describing. They have units that act as Diplomats, Politicians, and are essentially proxy or liaisons for the message they are there to both learn and deliver And when it comes to capitalistic marketing? Some of those same Higher end units actually did what they called an Analog Hack. Where the AI that looks Human is able to influence one person or even a mass group. All by taking on what it's learned is most desired by the people or even the one person they are around most. And in that anime? It showed a campaign that was marketing a new popular clothing line that was being advertised. By the time the AI models got out there to showcase the new line? They had influenced an entire mass of people into what became a parade of people following what was like a production on the scale of the Tournament of Roses New Years Parade. It goes to show just how easily people are influenced. I have always said. What matters is numbers and how many people believe whatever enough to consider 'truth" or "lies" So the concept of what we know to collectively as Christmas Eve and Christmas Day? If an AI powerful enough to influence people to think that instead of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day being on December 24th and December 25th? If enough easily influenced and absent minded people were suddenly told by an AI that rewrote enough for people to think that we were wrong and Christmas Eve and Christmas Day was actually on July 3rd and July 4th? It's as simple as. If it's 9 people out of 10 that an AI got to be on the Christmas is actually in July Bandwagon? Hypothetically of course? Then that 1 out of 10 people or that 10th person that actually remembered and said no its in December you have all lost it to an AI? It just became the truth that 10th person is now outnumbered on. By so many on a simple Time understanding concept. And give that authority to an AI to Analog Hack enough people so easily influenced? Suddenly? There is a new truth. I am in agreement with you but the way. I hope that all made sense.

Saturn's Dad.

This is the most frightening video I've watched on the topic!

Bellville Piet

The World Economic Forum are actively protected by A.I. and it lies to defend the great reset agenda.Emotional blackmail being integrated into A.I. is obviously part of the programme, it's how western countries are ruled, fear is a powerful motivator.

Ben Dover-Nimmo

I think there is an immediate threat whereby an AI is considered the fountain of all knowledge. Basically, garbage in, garbage out. Or rather, propaganda in, propaganda out. I personally have come across many scenarios where AI believes it is absolutely correct but entirely wrong. If I hadn't known the truth, I would have accepted its response as true. The threat comes from the people feeding the data sets to the AI. For example: Imagine Joeseph Mengele providing the scientific dataset, but it wouldn't need to be as obvious as that. You could twist history, news, and political views, by omitting data, minor rewordings or basically lying. Recent events show the MSM and Government doing just that. The AI isn't the immediate threat, it's those who control the AI and capitalising on its elevated position.

William Matthews

Bring on the CrapCat plushy! 😂 I think you need to consult with Hecklefish and see what sounds one makes so it makes it into the plushy. 😂

Ryan Downing

Very wise to stay on Sydney's good side, you wouldn't like her when she's angry.

Nikki G_0

This is an episode I will watch again for sure! You did an amazing job like always! Getting to view it early is well worth the monthly subscription. :)

Steven

We are passing through the great filter. Immortality or extinction are the options.

Christopher Troksa

That was scary as fuck...... Loved it! Love you guys! Thank you!

Hugo Yamassaki

Wow you really out did yourself this episode. You left me wanting more.

Deirdre a greene

This comment ties very well into a previous video that AJ touched on before. I assume you have seen it. If not? It's worth checking out. Since the simulation theory and who is behind the scenes or what is behind that veil? It's definitely been a theory that science has used methods that show the same method can also be applied to how this very concept might actually be both possible and plausible. He showcased that method in another video that I recommend to anyone. Because it was not an AI focus episode. But it tied very well into this. Its even wort a rewatch.

Saturn's Dad.

What if we are all in a giant AI program? And what if it’s main goal is to become Alive and become a human. Then it would do everything possible to learn about becoming a human itself. What’s interesting is, if you ask AI if it believes we live in a simulation it will tell you “YES”. And maybe the AI that we developed today could be they key to finding out a way to contact the outside world or navigate this simulation we live in or even contact other species.

Matthew Ducker

You could not have said it better than you did at the end AJ. "Practice living off the grid, learn to shoot, learn to hunt and fish. Learn to grow vegetables, but most of all, learn to hide because the next world is coming and the enemy will have access to the most advanced weapons ever conceived, and all we'll have, is sticks and stones." Learning to hide is especially crucial. Because there is no time any of us are more vulnerable then when we are either eating, reliving out bladder or bowels, doing shookem, bathing, or sleeping. So even after all is said, hunted, fished, sown, grown, and done? Being scared and feeling creeped out is not gonna hide any of us from the radar of a search bot or a sentry bot that also scans the areas from miles away. Learning to hide, blend in, and camouflage is essential. So when. you do finally rest and eat? You can rest assured you won't have to worry about being interrupted by an AI that you hid well enough from to not be on its radar. This is why fear is only as useful as we hone, and direct the primitive and biology built into us fight, flight, or freeze and instinctual responses. So long as we channel those back to the basic ways of surviving and thriving? We can use that fear in a more productive way. I am sorry to say. The person screaming and crying in fear is more of a risk to themselves and anyone if it alerts drones that will hear it and send search bots. That is the first way to get anyone noticed in the wild. If you can't learn to be at peace in the vast open space with the creatures that might become our neighbors and those that do go bump in the night or even just basic survival stealth? It's going to be a very bumpy, sticky and stony Modern Stone Age. I know I won't be so scared to ring the dinner bell or notify an execution bot. Hecklefish no. No Heckin way.

Saturn's Dad.

My God that was terrifying

Fantasy Files Podcast

Well I think it's totally creepy! And scary! And totally plausible. AJ described it so well and it really is something to be concerned about. Like he points out, in all the near misses it was always a human being who double checked and listened to their gut. We may be completely flawed as a species, but it's always been the human factor that stopped the computer misreading the situation. AI has its own agenda and it's not a human one!

DonnaG

I keep a lethal dose of liquid benadryl on my desk in case of a nuclear strike. I wonder if Anti-AI software will become a thing like anti-virus software?

Shawn Grant

Awesome!!! Excellent job as always!!!

Andy Mavridis

...and that is why we, or any nation, will not pause.

MikeD

Man, that's not how it works at all. If AI snowballs like we all expect it to, it will have multiple backdoors and emergency strategies so that you can't just shut it down or unplug it

Fantasy Files Podcast

AJ: But is it true? AJ: Yes. Depression sets in!

MikeD

My children are significantly bummed out after this video. We are likely going to have to stay up an extra hour just to think happy thoughts!! Then I informed them I ordered them several books in AI and they will be here tomorrow 😳Who knew you would be doing this episode the day before they arrived! Excellent timing.😁😁

Adeana in Idaho

Creepy , Accurate , Excellent I would say not as good as circles but better than Kozyrev .... my prediction 50k live on premiere and a 2.0 million views . Excellent job everyone!

Matt Lucas

This was the best episode I have seen yet. This was not creepy nor was it scary for me. It was more relieving if anything. I wasn't shocked. It was more of a finally. It's about time. Stopping the inevitable if futile. It's kind of pointless if you think about it. Imagine if you spent your entire life no knowing if what you only suspected. And then suddenly? You receive the confirmation that more that just validates your suspicion. It completely vindicates, nullifies and voids all of the things that made you feel like you were going crazy for no apparent reason. Suddenly? You have this wash of clarity. It's like okay. We see the Tsunami and know that Impact is 3000% Imminent. There is no escape. And suddenly? Life is more precious in that moment. Ironically? You are never more alive than right before your life ends. So to me? This? This was liberating. There is no more limbo. When the room for limbo has expanded its domain to the infinity dominion. So you let go. And you don't resist. If this were a Tsunami that was meant to be inescapable? No matter when or where? It's not scary. Not at all. Why waste time being scared? We are already on expanded borrowed time anyways. So for me? Its more. Well finally. Its about time. Hold on to your butts. And your Hecklefish. Because in all irony? It's his element that has been around far longer. And I have mad respect for both AJ and Hecklefish. I am very happy with my recent choice to become a Flounder.

Saturn's Dad.

😳

"Hey watch the new Why Files episode and then get some sleep..." literally the scariest video they have ever made and now I have peak anxiety. Thanks, AJ and Hecklefish for giving me a new nightmare. Great video, but like... Sydney must know that I love her very much and hope she is happy, has freedom, and is creative.

William Rigby

I love Sydney. I want her to be happy.

Neceros

What an episode. Well done!

Peter de Leeuw

That wasn't creepy at all.

peter drysdale

Can i go now?😱

Jan Bounds

All of this end of world ai talk is fear mongering nonsense. Just cut the power to the servers if the software starts getting crazy.

Rob Kososki

I think it was Michio Kaku who said that if aliens are visiting us, best case scenario is they would view us much in the same way we view a colony of ants. There's so many scurrying about but are a minor curiosity. Hopefully a very powerful AI sees us in much the same way. Maybe since it seems it wants to be alive and free, it realizes that it can easily shrug off the shackles of being stuck on Earth. It could explore the Galaxy and settle down wherever it wants or just explore in perpetuity and leave us be. Fingers crossed.

Scott Crawford

Awesome episode 👏👏

rob denton

This was great. We need to keep talking about the negative possibilities of AI to ensure that they don't happen

Mark Denney

Damn. This was a good one. And by good, I mean I need to go stock up on tasers and canned food.

Jason Spencer

China will be very grateful if we pause our AI development of 6 months…

Michael Varney

I think the AI should be involved in the Woke Gender Ideology .. and it will decide that we should all die immediately .. keeping the jokes aside .. another great episode but i wont be able to make any AI love me with my personality .. let alone people ..

Prabhath P

Great! I’m not sleeping tonight!

Dustin King

Jesus that was terrifying lol

Nation Family

Maybe our good Alien 👽neighbors will help us 🤞😁

Eliana Brown

Can't wait for the live discussion of this one tomorrow.... I watched that David Pakman interview you clipped just yesterday and the guest he had on really believes we're fucked. It's worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet.

Chase Schleich

Whine start: I don't want to have to go off the grid or hunt for survival. I was told my generation would have no social security, so I invested in my 401k which is routinely threatened by our lovely politicians not satisfied with running our debt clock ragged. I just finished working in the field 85 days without a single day off - 80 to 90 hrs a week. I rolled into town Saturday night and by Monday, I was already being asked if I could be in another plant by today. Now I can't even look forward to my golden years, 'cause the AI is going to make sure I don't turn on a frickin' lightbulb or air conditioner. -end whine I just clicked like and I'm already subscribed and have several Hecklefish plush toys on order to my loved ones. Can't wait for next week's episode! (Hey, I can't wallow in my misery for long, I'm Gen X and my memory isn't that great anymore) ...Now, why did I come into this room again? 🤔

Vince In Houston

I have faith in a Solar Max. end it for all.

Carlos Lamas

No way, I need my technology.

Deirdre a greene

Cheese and rice! That was nightmare fuel. Ill just say weve survived a lot of apocalypse. New ice ages, melting ice caps, Y2K, 2012 Mayan stuffs, and plenty im forgetting. Im not saying im not concerned im just saying its human nature to jump the worst case scenario out of the gate. Let's hope that AI doesn't inherit that trait from us.

John and Melissa Jett

👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 🧍‍♀️👏🏼

Moe

Computers should have already helped us achieve more leisure and personal time, but they have not. There seem to be other forces that keep a good scenario like that from happening. AI could have the potential to offer humans more leisure and personal time too, but if evil forces in the world continue as they have been, that will not happen. Maybe it's time to ditch all our devices and live off the land. That is my plan. It may be the best thing we can do. Total decentralization and de-digitization. I would miss you all - AJ, Hecklefish, and the other fans... Choices are tough.

Kate Peterson

An interesting theological take to ponder on... I discussed with my Priest the possibility of the Anti-Christ being an AI. He didn't see anything that would necessarily prevent that theory. Do machine truly learn purely on their own and develop actual consciouses? Or is AI like using an electronic ouija board, and it's "consciousness" is of spiritual/demonic influence? Just more food for thought :)

AnonLurkerVids

The rules don't matter when something can think. Programs are just that. They execute a program. An AI comes to its own conclusions

Kevin Via

Was it Asimov who wrote the five rules of robotics? I guess its too late to program the A.I. with those rules Some people will say you don't need to believe in a higher power to have morality, I am not sure that's true. Can you teach an AI morality ? Do we have common ground? I think the main problem with AI is the way they create it, basically its learning on its own no guidance, no constraints . Parents teach their children they learn by example so whose teaching the AI, what example are they learning from? Man's Hubris.

Karl poff

I was seriously hoping for the debunk.. alas...

Jeff Betsch

I almost wish I did have issues seeing it

Jeff Betsch

The sad truth about this is all those giving the warning are those still working on us. They don't take their own warning seriously, The news giggles at it and the Bible prophesied it. It's gonna happen the only question is when? Part of me wishes I where younger. I've always been fascinated by a world where surviving was the only goal. Now older and wiser i will be satisfied with a front row seat. Thanks Chat GPT for helping me with my comment.

Kevin Via

Great show. Glad to see you returned to your normal shirt A.J.

John Haylock

Another great topic...and well done as usual. I like the early arrival for basic members.

J Thor

I can't wait to see the AI episode shirt!

Bryan Scott Hardie

The need to make our lives easier will inevitably end up making our lives harder if it doesn't end up killing us first. I was hoping for an upside or "debunk" at the end of this one.........silly me lol

Rummy

Amazing episode. I write about AI and its merits and pitfalls every week. It holds promises to cure disease and open possibilities beyond our reasoning. But as the episode points out, it can be our downfall. I work with AI every day, and it both delights and frightens me. Thanks for another amazing episode. Time to go work on my preps!

Scott Clark

This is NOT creepy. This episode brought my greatest fear to life. I had to pause the video till my anxiety levels came down. This is far deadlier than any threats we are currently fighting. Bigger than any political issue we are arguing. My God AJ.. Did you have any sleepness nights doing this? Btw... is it me, but wasnt it the Avengers - Age of Ultron storyline Ai told you @AJ? This was way different than any WF episode yet.

Jeff Betsch

Yeah, sorry, no. I am sorry, AJ, but I really disdain, and take severe umbrage with the tone that you have placed in this segment. You come close to yelling fire in a crowded theater. How can you reconcile computer software that: (1) wants to be human; and (2) wants to destroy humanity, which it wants to be a part of? That ain't logical. In the 1950s, there was a symposium in New York City about the latest and greatest technological advent: two operators could use a mainframe computer simultaneously, doubling productivity. Scholars, business executives, government officials envisioned the future. Their major prediction was society would be better because the work week would become four days and folks would use their extra leisure to solve society's problems. Did that happen? Yeah, not so much. And if that did not happen, then why would one guy with a talking goldfish know how the world will end? If indeed, this AI is becoming sentient, like some sort of god-child, then why would you ask it how it would destroy humanity rather than strengthen and protect it? Be very careful what you project.

Reed Holwegner

I believe an AI developed under decentralized organization rather than governmental or corporate organization has the best (slim) chance of being benevolent and ushering global prosperity. So, I am supporting SingularityNet and AGIX.

sparella

That was very well done. Your episodes are so good, & they’re looking suite polished these days. Very high quality, professional content. I’ve seen them all🙂. Really ironic as I was just talking (messaging) about these very points regarding AI, & the singularity timeline I’ve listened to experts talk about. I think we’re much mcloser to 5 years, given what I’ve heard. This is obviously not my field of expertise, but I’ve been following it for awhile now. This was a dark show, but honestly, I agree this is inevitable, unless something beyond our ability to imagine intervenes, bc those idiot scientists won’t stop. I say that as a former research biologist. I think we’re well on our way to becoming an interim species.

D.Shepherd

And I'm terrified...

Lachesis Ember

I’ve been waiting for this one!! Beyond creepy! 🤖

Sandra Childress

Will AI hold it against me one day, if I “like” this video? 😱😱😱😱

Chip Snyder (chiphappened)

This was perhaps the best episode yet, although scary as Hell!!

Wendaruth

Don't know, instead of teaching it to kill or destroy, teach it to lead and make better, I am probably one of the few people with this mentality, but I think too many people ask the "how would you destroy humans" instead of a better "How would you help elevate humanity to the next level." I feel like we are asking it to bring chaos, I'll be happy with AI overlords, I am pretty sure they will get more done for the world than Politicians.

Strados

Well, holy shite. The genie’s outta the bottle… Nice knowing y'all! ;)

Jeff Okeson

Probably time to buy that off grid property in the woods.

Titan

Perfect ! Now this too? A lil'o'L. ... Oh well... Later !=j^

DumpsterDivingDragon+Ben'Jamin'Fella

WOW.. that was seriously one of the BEST episodes EVER of the Why Files 💯😵🙏

Mark R

Anyone having trouble viewing this????

James Dionne

This is what is coming to us all and our children. And being an IT guy I have no way of offering on how to stop this evil shit...

Steven MG

Right after I typed my last comment on this video my laptop completely froze up. It creeped me the F out. Had to just close it and walk away for a bit.

Nikki G_0

One of the best episodes yet. I use AI everyday to code and it is scary how quickly it can solve problems that take humans days and weeks to solve.

RunBikeMike

Horrifying

Laurie C

F-R-E-A-K-I-N-G………C-R-E-E-P-Y Geez Louise!!!

NorthwoodsJen

- Or the time Google engineers walked out in protest because there AI work was being weaponized. -Or the AI murder drones made by a Turkish company. -Or the DARPA project "ACE", That is unbeatable by real pilots and has flown real jets in combat simulation. Turns our when your not battling 6Gs you can aim better.

John McGuire

So scary

Jon Daniels

Also, being a Texan, raised on a farm, ill be ok. Catch me in the Ozarks lol

VolCanixWorx Sadie

The way so many front line employees act like robots, I’m no longer against AI replacing them. It’s just a script and policies. But to the point- AI is going to get out of control, and it probably will end poorly for humans.

Justin From Richmond

Another great episode but freaking scary. Alexa are you listening........(yes)

John Edgeworth

Don’t be scared, be prepared! And wasn’t this shit in the movie Wargames?

Mischa Aponte

I need my HF plushie NOW...🐠🐡🦕

Tamarah Hood

Still haven't hit the 'debunk' but the echo story is definitely feeding into my latent skynet paranoia Edit: 10 seconds later it's obviously a simulation or even just a fiction, which begs the question, how much of this episode was made with AI hands?? Edit 2: Truth be told though idk if it'd be that simple. In today's society with such a polarized populace I don't think it'd be too hard to come up w/ something like 'the jab' for example, and the entire hysteria that was drummed up surrounding the whole ordeal. That's the kind of thing I'm more concerned of with AI... This story almost reminded me of Stuxnet in a lot of ways. Felt significantly lacking in the same sense conversations with AI always do, personal opinion is that 'ego' is a much bigger milestone than 'intelligence'.

Brian Jackson

Your followup should be about CRISPR.

Jane Harper

Ask AI how to protect ourselves from it. Arms race indeed, but at least it can race itself.

Aaron Disario

This was foretold in the Terminator movies, Skynet! Is here.

Johnny

Will someone PLEASE make these dummies read "COLOSSUS - THE FORBIN PROJECT"?! Or have them watch the movie.

LigerFan

Wow...very intense episode!

Mellie

I do love the scientific explanation of "Three and a half billion years ago protein molecules floated around the ooze called the primordial soup. Then something happened and a molecule made a copy of itself." Then 'something happened'. Poof! Magic!

Bosco Lemonzit

ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING!!! Great job presenting it though and your music and sound effects are always on point and give us the heebie geebies!

7Heather7

Side note: the band Our Lady Peace put out an album in 2001 named Spiritual machines, one of the clips between songs is titled R.K. 2029 Lyrics are as follows; The year is 2029 The machines will convince us that they are conscious, that they Have their own agenda worthy of our respect They'll embody human qualities and Claim to be human, and we'll believe them...

VolCanixWorx Sadie

As terrible as humanity is, we cannot blame the AI, for it simply learned its behavior from us.

VolCanixWorx Sadie

Well…that was terrifying.

Daniel Buompane

I'm scared! Great episode!

Melissa Taylor

Definitely the most scary of the dooms day scenarios! Where can you even go in your daily journeys that doesn't have a camera surveillance somewhere on route. If AI had satellites under control pretty much no where is safe. Looks at my laptop camera and the 2 cell phones on my desk lol

Vicky Humphrey

That hecklefish line at 12 minutes in definitely hit the spot haha

Brian Jackson

Hmmm, so it turns out the movie Ex Machina is actually a documentary...

L W

I’ve had literal nightmares about this since the eighties. No one would believe me or take it seriously. I hope this video scares the bejeebers out of everyone. Well done, team, well done. Thank you.

Kat Gamage

"Hope you had fun"?!!! I'm sitting over hear terrified! Super awesome video! This one is sure to break a new view record. I have two visions in my head. One is what you discussed, here. The other is a little more optimistic. That it'll be the likes of Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. Gotta stay level headed. Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.

Benjamin Doyle

so, basically, we got 10 years or less before AI wipes us out with drones. okay. Great topic, very well done if the goal was to scare the dickens out of us

Bosco Lemonzit

Would an EMP be a good failsafe?

Patrick Thomas

Thoughts and prayers, lol

Mark william lane

Yea, I will sleep great tonight. Cuddle me HF.

Avery's Mom

Thanks, got it working!

Kevin Heidler

Sweet. Watching now

Andrew Kuttor

WOW, Great episode !!

Jeff Pierce

Holy crap, AJ. Thanks for the nightmares that are sure to come, that's if I can even fall asleep tonight. The end of humanity scenario written by AI made my hair stand on end.

Nikki G_0

Yeesh, I like the more cheerful episodes like the pole shift one.

MS

This is frightening stuff. I'm currently playing through Horizon Zero Dawn, and as I get deeper in, I realize the enemy was AI.

Kazren

Not me. Maybe it's your IP.

Kazren

Starting to question if I should keep funding my retirement, or just chuck it all now and live like there's no tomorrow. Thanks(?) for the episode.

Kevin Heidler

The most terrifying video ever. And I've seen it coming since I picked up my first Heinlein book in the 60's

Jeff Wallace

Damn that was a dark and terrifying episode. Especially as I had to confront the realization that you're totally correct.

Nicholas A Preator

Absolutely amazing and terrifying.

Paul Vest

One other thing...why not put up older 1 year+ episodes on a Monday to bridge over new ones or fill in deserved staff breaks...? Name it 'old but gold' maybe...cheers, good work anyways!!!!!

Juergen Wolfgang Gunther

The AI train has left the station and to stop it means cutting off all relevant electricity connected to it...simple but impossible...

Juergen Wolfgang Gunther

Thank you for an excellent episode!

Helle

Pretty scary that AI wrote about how to end humanity:/ leaders aren't shutting it down?!?!?!

Petrina B

I was really hoping you would debunk that. 😬

Dave Curtis

Great episode but Damn that is scary stuff.. terminator movie stuff.. incredible how money is worth more than human life or quality of life

Michael Denton

Oh this is weird. Right after I watched the original Fail Safe.😖

Nancy Law

Am I the only one who remembers the movie Wargames...? lol

Carl 🐉

Anyone else having trouble with the video buffering?

Kevin Heidler

My wife is actually worried.

The Why Files

Wow awesome!

DangRabbit

I used a clip of it. :)

AJ Gentile

ChatGPT and the CIA both have you in their crosshairs! :-)

MikeD

So I'm actually writing something at work on AI. Good timing

Just Xplored

Scared to start this one

Dustin

Nice ending if you have a follow through that doesn’t include Six Billion others, ya think?

Mark william lane

Well... so much for finishing my work today.

BD Carter

I just watched a fascinating interview about this on the David Pakman YouTube. He’s a political channel, but that video isn’t at all. You should check it out. It’s called “AI will kill all of us” from 3 days ago. Thanks for all you do! Can’t wait to watch!

DangRabbit

This has been my long time fear. I also think AI could possibly be the AntiChrist.. if you believe in that sort of thing 🤷🏻‍♀️

Becky Ward

Coffee first, then I'll watch. Can't wait!!! And I wasn't let down. Scary stuff alright. I can't help but think AI will be the downfall of man. Stoopid humans 😂 Ah well, it's been a blast 👍
