Sorry if this ends abruptly, wanted to keep it under 1hr! I got so tired I went to bed soon after.

Kingdom Episode 2 PT1

Actually (and while I’m not a fan this is the part I want to chime in on as I hate SM as a company but Changmin is a great host) there were 5 members of TVXQ!. Three of them felt they were getting unfair wages and treatment, that their contracts were too long (13 years) and being changed without their knowledge so they wanted to break contract. Thus 3 years of suing each other happened. But the 3 basically ended up being blackballed by SM, as they own quite a bit of the media outlets in Korea. Back then, if the Big 3 didn’t support you, you couldn’t make it. If you didn’t follow what SM wanted, you wouldn’t be getting slots on music shows or promotions. Even to this day, if you displease SM, their artists are used as a weapon. SM doesn’t like the winner of an award show, their artists won’t go anymore (ever notice the lack of EXO on awards shows like MAMA or MMA?). Before BTS broke through the Big 3 net and became the first group from a small company to win a daesang, it just wasn’t thought to be possible. BTS opened/open a lot of doors. And many people hate them for doing it.

During the episode the guy with the blonde hair who bobby called was Mino from winner and donghyuk called seungyoon from winner.Winner is a 4 member boy group from yg and they had their last comeback remember before two of the members hoony and Jinu were enlisted for military service. In the survival show team A won the show and debuted as winner. The fans requested for Team b to have a chance so much that they competed in the follow up survival show and they debuted as Ikon

oyeah thanks. I just didn't expect that it would as abrupt as this hahahaa

First off at the beginning I agree with your reasons why Ikon got 6th. Ikon are probably the group I listen to the 2nd most here though, so I'm really hoping they are able to bring it going forward. I enjoyed their performance this episode. (Ateez is the first so both my dudes are are the bottom I just realized! Lol) After the rankings were announced for Ikon I think the show's editing really gave it away that Stray Kids won first place. They were giving way too much screen time to The Boyz that I was like "Oh well it has to be Stray Kids then right?" I'm still torn over which of those performances I think deserved the win, but I think that means in my head they were equally deserving. However, I think I've found myself rooting for The Boyz. I feel like it would really suck for them if they don't win Kingdom, because they have had to work twice as hard to even get here. But also I would be really happy if anyone won. All these groups deserve it at the end of the day. What they did in February was in episode 1 I believe. Again felt you on how biased it is to have fans vote. I was worried The Boyz would come last, because I feel like they have a disadvantage with fan voting. As well as SF9. The Boyz fandom might be bigger than I realize though. I'm not sure. I was thinking the same thing about Stray Kids's makeup. Even with the previous episode. Their tattoos looked cool but the eye makeup was a little messy. Come on JYP we know you're rich get these boys a good mua! lol. Q is one of the older members I believe. Sunwoo is second youngest and Eric is the youngest. I believe they were both born in 2000. But in April then December. Could be wrong and Eric was born in 2001 though. Eric is the one with only one sleeve in this performance. He lived in LA for awhile so he's fluent in English. His real name is Youngjae but from my knowledge he goes by his English name. The Boyz also have members called Jacob and Kevin who are from Canada. (My The Boyz trivia is really terrible, so I could be making tons of mistakes on this). I was laughing so hard at Seonghwa's reactions throughout the episode as well. He is always so wide eyed!! And I'm pretty sure he said "You have to pay to watch this" in episode 1 as well. I'm wondering if that will be his catchphrase going forward. Lol You were right. Winner won "Win" and Ikon came in second. Then there was a competition show after that where Ikon won and debuted. Tbh Love Scenario is an obvious choice but I think it makes sense to use it now since they are at the bottom. Really enjoyed that they chose killing me as well. Turns out Chani and I have similar taste, because I'm Okay is my fave Ikon song probably. Excited to see how you enjoy the rest of the episode!!

I've never had any previous experience with the Boyz. Never heard their music before this. They were in my top 2 from the intro stage but this one threw me off too. For me it was 100% the hands (POV). There was something about it. I physically cringed every time those arms came jutting out from the camera. It took me out of the performance. :(( sad about it bc i was looking forward to their stage after the intro ep. Maybe it's just me, but that is definitely what through me off.

Kris

Not necessarily less, just stripped of a lot of the productive elements that made the original terrific in my opinion. And yeah, seems like a logistical nightmare to work that into the stage.

LUC_Rambler

I was (for the first time ever) underwhelmed by the performance of The Boyz. It didn't feel... right. I can't place my finger on why though. I'M OK and Killing Me are actually two of my all time favourite songs, not just from iKON's discography but from any and all songs! So it was really funny to me when Chani recommended iKON to do exactly those two songs lol! Stoked for your reaction to the next two performances, they blew my mind!

Juuls

Really really really reallyy

wowoooowow

really really really really really good!

hi_k99

yeah totally agree , and sadly hj situation was blown out of proportion and jype kinda gave out vague statement for his return so we don't know if he will return for kingdom and his issue wasn't totally clarify. sigh

No Air is my favourite The Boyz song! I really loved the coreography against the sheet and the light play on it, wish it was more of that, I really like it when they go more contemporary art. I also appreciate the live vocals! The POV was not it for me, I have very low bar for second hand embarrassment (I suffer daily in kpop). The one thing that bothered me was the preparation behind, there was no need for all of them to go into that tank, especially considering how Sunwoo struggled vs how long the intro was shown, I would have been mad if I was him. I was sad DK cut his hair, he looked really cool. Aww, Jay. I'm quite happy so far because all the dong choices are songs I know and like so it is a bit more enjoyable. PS - Mino is WINNER rapper, Seung Yoon is the leader and amazing main vocal (like really really good). SKY CASTLE is a super famous KDRAMA.

wowoooowow

I'm not exactly scared of water, but scared of going underwater. So anytime I'm in a situation that my feet can't touch the bottom I get anxious, and if I end up going underwater, I basically have a panic attack. It all comes from almost drowning when I was seven.

Horizonshard

The guys iKON called are both from Winner btw :p I'm not really familiar with either group. To be honest I did enjoy The Boyz's performance. I think they did less tricks. I also really enjoyed hearing their vocals. They can sing! The backing track was still really loud, but I heard them loud and clear in most of the song. I think they found approaches to add excitement and "wow" factors to the performance without doing non-stop acrobats. It was a really nice performance. Can't wait for the 2nd part!!

KPOP Stan Sara

He said he would cut it before an hour and film/upload the 2nd part another day since it was late at night when he recorded this half and he was tired.

KPOP Stan Sara

has this video only 59 minutes? Or is it cut for me because of the Dropbox limit?

Stanley Maximillian

that must be a bummer for you that the song became 'less' I am also wondering if it is because of physical barrier. 1 m³ of water --> 1 ton of weight. For 10 m³ it would be extra 10 ton weight to the building. Depending on which floor this stage is located in Mnet's building, maybe they didn't get a green light from Mnet to use such weight

Stanley Maximillian

Changbin pulled the short straw and got his face turned into a beehive. Wouldn't be surprised if Younghoon from TBZ got a whole bunch of ball busting for that...hair decoration.

LUC_Rambler

Overall, the Kingdom and Queendom preparation videos are longer than Road to Kingdom. Both have 10 episodes in total

Stanley Maximillian

No Air is my favorite track by them, and the remix was a downgrade. Perhaps the budget of the underwater scene would've strained their overall stage budget? Who knows. I was fully expecting them to do an underwater scene on stage and steal first again.

LUC_Rambler

Story-based MV was actually very prominent around 2006-2013 during gen2, but it died out after that (which was the time when gen3 groups popping out) I think BtoB is actually the only exception, especially because they have many ballads. They might even be considered as gen2 group tbh

Stanley Maximillian

Have to say, I did not enjoy The Boyz' performance at all. It was sooo 'crowded' with props and I couldn't enjoy/feel the song I wonder why they didn't just do some underwater choreo for real, I think that would be sick. Let's say for the bridge part or something

Stanley Maximillian

Yeah. I was not surprised at iKon getting last. Ever since the BI nonsense occurred, their domestic popularity tanked. They wouldn't have even considered this show if their leader/group/label hadn't been crucified for that (though I feel little remorse for YG). I think the biggest shocker of the initial ranking was Ateez. They post really strong sales, have a very vocal fanbase, and had a performance that checked all the boxes for me. That performance was at the very least deserving of fourth. Shame is a huge part of Korean culture (now it's a global phenomenon, yay for twitter) and Hyunjin's situation is embodying that culture at the moment. It's weird and gross. When the industry pegs these people as "idols" rather than artists, they are really expected to maintain a facade that transcends normal humans. Very unhealthy dynamic. It doesn't help that idols can have their brief window of opportunity closed to due legally unproven allegations, but hey.

LUC_Rambler

I also agree on the voting system. I would love to see my favorite win, but I'd want it to be fair for everyone. I love how The Boyz have a specific theme from the start. By the way, if you're interested in hetting to know them better outside their music, I highly recommend it. They are hilarious.

sumi mia

honestly, don't really want to argue but just because skz came from JYP doesnt mean it gives them the advantage of having a lot of fans. the struggle of stays and skz way back before God's Menu was so big that they only sell few albums or stream, they only achieve a lot during IN life era (because of God's Menu) . But I do agree with the voting system though, especially the voting of 3 teams lol. but we still have 50% from self voting and experts , better just enjoy the show

Keycee C.

you are right. if it is going to be based on votes. it would be almost impossible to beat stray kids. so i'm glad they are widening the options. i'm sure stray kids would welcome the competition.

claireisuche

sunwoo is the second youngest, eric is the youngest in the boyz and he's from LA, so eric is his american name the boyz also has 2 other foreign members, jacob and kevin(bias) who're both canadians

hi_k99

though ikon deff has that grand image, skz surely has the largest fanbase of the idols on this show, like their livestreams have millions of views even, and belonging to jyp, they have more international fans too, so due to the online voting system (not a fan of), they have a great advantage, not saying they don't deserve any of this in the least bit, but just minding the fact that the ranking system isnt something i feel is fair enough

hi_k99

water terrifies me. my mom's little brother drowned when she was a kid and she basically traumatized me. yesn winner won and ikon came in second. you were right
