Koreans value hardware (like gold medals and oscar statues). Bong Joon Ho is untouchable in korea.....ESPECIALLY since his gold statues were the best of the best versions of that statue (compared to, say, getting an Oscar in sound editing or short story) Yeah, that was when IU was super busy doing all the entertainment shows bc she was still rising and because she started SO YOUNG she was such a baby in all these shows. I think she's been on like 5-6 Running Man episodes. She's prob still a teenager in this episode

2024-05-30 03:44:57 +0000 UTCat the time of the episode (Im guessing it was right after PJS retired from Man U so around 2012....that's when he started showing up on TV a lot), there was no question PJS was known to WAY WAY WAY more koreans compared to IU (I mean, there's a reason he was introduced before IU). To say he was the Michael Jordan of korea isn't hyperbole. Funny thing about kpop in korea.....at the same time it's EVERYWHERE but when it comes to the general public knowing groups and members, they really don't (outside of kids under 18 and people on tv bc thats their job). However, when an athlete breaks through internationally either by participating in the worlds best leagues (like EPL or MLB) or by winning an Olympic gold.....EVERYONE in korea knows them Obviously today IU is pretty ubiquitous and more and more people are forgetting PJS since he hasn't played in a while but at the time of this episode, he was a GOD and IU was in that phase transitioning from rising music star to entire nation entertainment star

Also kind of funny the years and team you mentioned for knowing soccer players. Because Patrice Evra was on the French National team from 2004 - 2016. So he should be right in your wheelhouse.
