I was made aware of talented yoga aficionado Forest Alexandra through a mutual friend over a year ago, and after chatting with her through Instagram and by text message for a few months, we finally were able to meet up at her home in Moorpark, Ca. Within a few days of our lengthy conversations I knew we would become good friends, and within moments of working with her I knew we’d become great collaborators.
Forest is somewhat shy, humble, and unassuming; she’s also clutzy, funny, and stunningly beautiful. But above all, my favorite characteristic of Forest is that up until two years ago she had no interest in modeling, it had never even occurred to her. Yet through a basic creative drive and by challenging her natural uncertainties, she’s been able to create stunning images with photographers throughout Southern California, harnessing her increasingly flexible and fit frame while overcoming her personal demons regarding body issues and general insecurities.
The series of images I am presenting here are from our second shoot, taken in her late grandfather’s home, which was going through renovations. We had the run of the place, and though this particular set was extraordinary, it was taken in a very dank, unassuming garage lined with old appliances and gardening tools. I love creating in an environment that so many would ignore and pass over, and I love working with beautiful women who are real and who don’t define themselves by their beauty.
