Overall, the morning was a success. Only after she put on her "Hugh Hefner robe," as she called it, did I realize just how sci-fi looking she really was. Maybe it's my years of watching Star Trek TNG and Voyager, but there was definitely an Alien/Seven-of-Nine quality to the look, which again made me want to develop the use of this idea further. I think seeing her with a bit of clothes on made me aware of just how nude and different she actually looked. That really appealed to me as well.
So many models and photographers are playing with glitter these days, and honestly, most of the time it looks kind of bad and poorly done. Not to say that how we did it on this morning was any better, but at least it was an attempt at making it more of an experience. I think we need layers of glitter, more time spend adding more until she's covered in a glittered suit of armor, a second skin.
I also think that doing it in a real environment, instead of a safe bedroom or shower location, adds so much more. Kalani laughed at me, saying that I always have to make a situation as difficult as possible. It's true, doing a shoot like this out in public is so much harder than doing it in the safety of a home, but the pay-off is that much greater as well.
Later that night, after I had sent Kalani samples from the day, I asked her how long it had taken to shower all of it off. "It was actually pretty easy," she confessed, "But it sure as shit clogged the drain."
Needless to say, I think I've really overcome my fear of glitter, all it took was being wrist deep in the stuff. There is glitter on my passenger seat, in my pockets, and a few glint off my cheek now and again, but I feel fine about it. I wonder what fear I'll conquer next?
