But thinking of the events before the Witch cult the only thing he achieved was calling in reinhard and saving a few kids from a few Mabeasts, as well as Rem. If he trusted him after killing the White Whale, sure - Subaru's out here. But forming an alliance with an opposing faction and dispatching a group of enemies that normally always have the upper hand in all situations just because he ran around in a forest of dogs just doesn't add up. The show is already so complex with minute details that I don't think the author would over look this, I hope.

And now that Fredrica has been mostly absolved of any wrong doing(she's still up to something, but it seems like it's more personal, and has something to do with Garf, so I doubt she ordered the hit), the only one left that's suspicious enough and powerful enough to organize something like this has to be Roswal. Think about what Elsa said. Her attack needed to be timed with Subaru's arrival, and considering Roswal's suspicions of Subaru's ability and whatever power he has that lets him know beforehand what Subaru is capable of, he's the only one we know of who would be able to set this up in the first place.
