Also the fact Rena and Keichii having flashbacks. Definitely a sequel and I feel bad for people getting baited by it not being oone cuz you are missing out on some amazing storytelling.

For people who never played the games when the original was released Kai & Rei caught a lot of people off guard and lost track of the story as a whole. In this remake they're trying to make sure that doesn't happen for newcomers of the series which is why they give us the scene with Rika without giving away all of the plot points of the story.

And with how good of a show Higurashi is, I feel like it would be a disservice to watch this than go abck and watch original, only time will tell but with how it's looking, watching this without sdeeing original is most likely a big mistake.

2020-10-10 16:03:47 +0000 UTCAccording to the creator this remake / retelling is also made with newcomers in mind and will be a good entry point for them. So even though it's a "sequel" for fans of the original it's a standalone story for new viewers so I think it's fine if they continue.

At the moment assumptions are it is apparently a "remake" in the sense that the Evangelion Rebuild movies and FF7R are remakes. Basically it's a sequel. No clue if reanimated guys have watched originals but it's looking like you may want to before continuing trhis.

But the writer of the original said this version is fine for both newcomers and rewatchers. I suspect this is gonna be more like a reimagining of the original rather than a sequel or straight remake.
