They wanted them to look very menacing and to stand out from the rest of the cast/setting. It clearly didn't work out but rest of anime doesn't have much cgi. Also the show is based in Japan and the Ainu are their equivalent of Native Americans in North America. This anime has great action, great comedy, and twists and mystery. Seriously a very good anime that people were turned off because of the ebars in episode 1 and it's too bad cuz this show just gets better and better.

2020-10-23 08:47:57 +0000 UTCReally cool to see you guys react to this. It's a super fun series, yet also surprisingly informative about the Ainu culture. Plus Sugimoto and Asirpa are just a fantastic duo. In case you didn't know, the Ainu are basically the Japanese equivalent of a Native American culture. The author of the manga did an incredible amount of research into their culture, even getting the help of an expert in the Ainu language for all of the scenes that use their language. So any time there are characters speaking the Ainu language it's actually very accurate. It's a fun little glance into a native culture from Japan, wrapped inside of a great action and mystery story.
