Such an amazing series, the only thing I didn't like is that it ended lol but I agree the season ended at a perfect spot. First anime that made me buy all the manga to read anything the show missed & catch up (they got the all the chapters on amazon). Cant wait for season 4!

Yea the Cgi bear was ugly but thats not really why people should of dropped it. It got a good story, characters, action, comedy, and it can get dark sometimes too. Wish more people would talk about it.

From what we've seen of his background it makes absolutely no sense for him to be so fluent in Russian and to have a goal that goes beyond simply acquiring the gold. The easiest explanation for his Russian is that he learned it during the Russo-Japanese War, but the majority of the soldiers we've met have little to no Russian and only officers have shown any knowledge of the language. So far it's just Tsukishima who's spoken any Russian and he was Tsurumi's right-hand man. I think the best possible motive came with one line he directed to Koito, in Russian, which was translated here as "Rich fool". But it's more accurately "child of a lord", used as an insult much like "spoiled brat". (I don't know Russian, I just did some quick digging because that insult caught my attention). That feels like an odd choice of insult for a soldier whose only experience with the language should have been wartime and who's claiming to only be after the money himself. With no further knowledge of the source material for this show, I've got to rely on historical knowledge and that leads me to one conclusion that both makes no sense and yet explains everything. If Ogata somehow had past connections to Russia, which would be really difficult to figure out from the background we saw with Tsurumi, we're less than 10 years from the start of the Russian Revolution. A connection there seems like such a long shot though. There were socialists active in Japan around this time, but does that fit Ogata at all and when would he have had time to contact anyone in Russia? On one hand, it would be a really interesting twist if he was hoping to use the gold to start a revolution like the Russian Revolution that would happen in just 10 years, but I really don't think that fits Ogata at all. Right now Ogata's motivations and past just don't make any sense. I don't think the past we were seen with Tsurumi is a lie, but everything else about his most certainly is. Where would he have learned fluent Russian? Why would he have learned it? What goal could he have that's worth going against all sides of this conflict? We have three factions still: The Russian revolutionaries (Sophia and Kiroranke), Tsurumi's men, and Hikikata's group. Sugimoto has hopped back and forth between all groups on mostly good relations, but Ogata has not allied with any of them anymore. He was with Tsurumi, then Hijikata, then Sugimoto, then Kiroranke, and now he's completely on his own or on an unknown faction. I think he may be the single most interesting character so far, just because there are so many questions being raised and we can't trust any of his answers.
