Shirou's character is so good. That ending with him saying "i want to live" is actually amazing, but for anime onlys it probably wont have the same impact. none the less its amazing

And the ending was just so damn beautiful. Had me in tears. Lots of moments had me in tears. Hell that Rider vs. Saber Alter fight had me in tears from the sheer epicness overload.

He was later called by the grail to become a counter guardian jumping through time and killing villains. Then rin summoned him through the the crystal as a catalyst without knowing since a counter guardian is the same as a servant.

It certainly helps the audience piece together just how shirou survived if you are familiar with her series. Also Rider is best girl, and now everyone knows it.
