The eye thing is coincidental cause a lot of ninja manga in Japan use special eyes but not to the degree of prominence in which naruto does it. Ninku is a ninja manga which he states inspired him. But there are definitely inspirations from HxH in Naruto like the bell test, chunin exams, and maybe Orochimaru but I'm doubtful about that. Also, it's literally only a year between when HxH started and when Naruto started publishing the gap between them is minimal. And another fun fact YuYu Hakusho is more popular than HxH. The two most popular characters in HxH are Kurapika and Killua, it's not even close. While in YuYu Hakusho, the two most popular are Hiei and Kurama. Both of those characters are quite similar to their counterparts in each story.
