BUNGO STRAY DOGS S2 E7 REACTION

Comments

Thank you for the reaction.

Stephanie Chavez Avalos

Ahhh okay that's quite the caveat. Thanks fam! Glad you're enjoying them!

SG

Lol yeah Lovecraft is insane.

SG

Kunikida can't make anything larger than the notebook he always carries, and he also needs to know how the item works in full. If he didn't have those limitations, I'm pretty sure this man could summon whatever he wanted and the show would be pointless XD Love the reactions, keep em comin!

Voltage

Lovecraft is a scary mother fucker huh? They did a great job with his character's gift and you guys haven't seen it at it's best yet! Interestingly the only book I know from John Stienbeck was The Red Pony, which they made us read in middle school and the kid in it had to pull an Old Yeller and kill the horse. Damn thing doesn't even make it through the first 1/4 of the book! I completely forgot about Q and what a scary little shit he is! You know it's bad when Dazai is concerned.

Daisuke_Takahiro

After seeing what he did to Akutagawa in episode 11 he DEFINITELY is a petty bitch lmao!

SG

"Dazai's a petty bitch" I love him, but that's the best quote ever.

Maeee

I agree with you completely, apart from the fact that I don't think people would associate the fear of the "Other" with real life racism in a fictional story like the ones he makes, unless it was specifically brought to their attention, at which point a lot of people would be biased to reading his works and would refuse to give them a chance. My impression is that the whole revoking of his name being associated with the award, brought a lot more attention to the racist fact than needed. After all, the man past away more than 80 years ago. I understand the reasoning about not rewarding this type of behavior and sending the wrong message by ignoring it, but it still feels a unfair to me. On a positive note, yes, this series is in fact a banger. The first season didn't make too much of an impression on me apart from the finale. But the prequal story at the start of this season got my attention when I first watched it and everything after kept delivering. Really happy the guys decided to pick it up and have been enjoying the reactions. Hoping this would prompt them to pick up Kekkai Sensen as well, apart from that first episode, since that one gives similar vibes but in a more nutty kind of way.

HP Lovecraft was even considered racist by other people in the 20's, he was super hardcore, and you can't look at his writing without taking that into account. Don't get me wrong, he's got some bangers (like the color out of space and the mountains of madness) and the mythos he help create is awesome and foundational to tons of modern horror, but the primary theme of alot of his writing is fear of the "Other" and a lot of that was brought about by his racism (and his general fear of people. Also he hated Italians lol.) It's not something you can just write off as a product of his time, since it's reflected in his works and something people should definitely be aware of (again not saying his writing is bad but I don't think people should downplay his racism). Also this show is cool, I'm glad the reanimated guys reacted to it because I probably wouldn't have given it a chance otherwise

DestructoDiscman

Cthulhu is just the most well known of Lovecraft's creations.

Richie Roberts

Seems legit, it's not like I know all the writers the characters are based on in this series, especially the Japanese ones. H.P. Lovecraft is worth noting since he is one of the greatest Fiction/Horror writers and the creator of Cthulhu. A friend of mine is a big fan and recommended him. Turns out there was even a "World Fantasy Award" given to the best fantasy fiction writer, that had a cartoonish bust of his head to honor his works. Sadly, the award or rather, the trophy no longer has his head on it since the year 2015 because he seems to have been a racist and political correctness dictates that this means he is no longer considered a good author. Scholars have argued that these racial attitudes were common in the American society of his day, particularly in New England where he spent most of his life, but apparently the world is black and white. Not saying the fact he was a racist was ok, but it still seems a bit unfair to judge the quality of his works based on that :\

I look forward to every reaction. I really can't wait until you guys get to see the rest of the Guild's abilities.

Krissy Williams

Nah, just know about Cthulhu never cared to look into the origin of it.

SG

So you guys know what Cthulhu is, but nothing clicked with "The great old ones" or Lovecraft? More reasons to enjoy episode 9 when it comes out :D
