January Reaction: Charlotte Semi-Finals

Hey all! Here's my reaction to my semi-final match from the Charlotte Regional Championships, giving a lot of the context into the behind the scenes of what was going on. Hope you enjoy!

In turn 3 of Game 2, why did you switch Urshifu instead of U-Turn? I would’ve assumed that in this position, it’s safe to just get some chip on the Ogerpon since you know you’re faster with your Urshifu, and it would also prevent a Gouging Fire Breaking Swipe from affecting your Incineroar.

How do you feel about the team at Knoxville? I’m likely using it but nervous about the mirror, Registeel stuff and things like the new Dozo variant and Regidrago. I know you had a few replays but hype to see the eventual team report 🔥

gouging fire was a little scary in theory but in the 3 rounds I played against them there was never a moment where one got to +1 let alone +2 because Incineroar just bullied it indefinitely. Definitely requires smart incineroar play though.

wolfey were you ever Worried that Gouging Fire would sweep your Entire team becase. with like 2 howl Boost it could kill all of your pokemon and out speed them with the booster energy. your team also At least needed to hits to kill it. also if you had Incineroar or rillaboom to fake out the gouging fire you would not have Enough Damage to k.o it. and with Support like rillaboom and ogerpon well spring it would be even harder to get rid of. so could Gouging Fire had kill your or am i just a Buffoon. #THEKINGISBACK

I assumed close combat would KO - my Urshifu isn't max attack either so I'm not sure if Luka knew he would survive or was making a prediction, since he had no way of knowing my attack stat

Wolfe Glick

Against players where I'm not sure about their skill level I try to focus heavily on macro plays, and I try not to overpredict as well, focusing on making safe plays that should work against the most common options. Once a player shows me that this style wont work is when I adapt. You can see this somewhat in this set where I made a safe play turn 1, but Luka punished me heavily for it, and so I immediately kicked up a gear

Awesome video! Curious whether you thought it was possible that Kingambit would survive the close combat after the tera in G2? I assume Luka only keeps the Kingambit in knowing he survives that.

I think others have said it on previous wideos but I enjoy the old style rambles/tangents so no need to apologise for it! Your insights and ability to break things down are incredibly valuable and personally much more important than a perfectly edited video. I've got ADHD and do the same thing a lot so it might just be my bias but hearing your thought process happen live is excellent! Thanks for the great content :)

Wow, really liked the way u explained your turn by turn thought process here, it really gave a very direct insight into how u think about what’s happening and every possibility that u consider when choosing your moves. This type of content is so helpful and at least for me, I feel like I’ve learned a lot after watching 40+ minutes of it, thank u, Wolfey!

Hey Wolfey, great analysis video! How do you adjust your thought process when you are playing against lesser skilled players? Some of your analysis on what to do in certain positions relies on the opponent also having a similar thought process and then you just being that next level.
