Added 2021-10-01 03:36:57 +0000 UTCHere are your rewards for the Wilted Rose Estate Map Pack [40 x 30]!
This Map Pack features [3] Maps – the main level of the estate, a version with rooftops and the lower level of the estate. The Estate is intended to be in disrepair, as the Lady has withdrawn into the lower level to conduct research on the plague and find a cure – at any means. Bandits, mercenaries and thugs now prowl the estate proper, keeping her fresh with subjects for her research in return for gold and run of the grounds.
I wrote up some background on the lore/story and have included it here for you, as well:
This is the 2-Level Noble Estate of the Lord and Lady Wingret, a wealthy family with a long history of owning and operating extensive farmland and other agricultural imports/exports. Controlling much of the produce for their region, they were a very influential and powerful House, though not particularly militant or political.
The home bears some small cultural differences, due to their focus and interest in Agriculture. The top level of the estate was mostly home to servants, guards and other estate workers, less a handful of formal meeting chambers the family kept for visitors and entertaining important guests. The grounds contained an extensive stables, blacksmith and greenhouse for the family's research in rare plants.
In lieu of a crypt, most family members were buried with a seed and now are represented by one of the many trees located on the property.
The lower level of the estate held the rooms of the noble family members, as well as a shrine to the Goddess of Agriculture, research facilities and testing facilities for the many plants and herbs they researched and collected.
A while ago, a virulent plague swept through the area, sickening many of the men and women in the region, including the Lord Wingret. Despite their best efforts, the Lord succumbed to the disease. The Lady Wingret, in her grief, vowed to find a cure for this plague that has been killing thousands across their Kingdom. She converted the lower level into a research facility and began the process of researching, concocting and testing potential cures.
The process began with animals, but eventually needed human subjects. She began with victims of the plague searching for a cure, but many of the cures either accelerated the plague or came with other difficulties, often resulting in the subject's death. When the willing volunteers diminished, the Lady refused to give up and began to use the family's vast wealth to hire mercenaries and thugs to bring her more subjects, while what remained of the more loyal family guard/servants stayed on the lower level.
As part of her desperate research, Lady Wingret met with all manner of professionals, including clergy and wizards. Most recently, she employed one to open a rift to the Feywild in the hopes of discovering a source of the cure she had read about in a book. The rift has showed promise, and the Lady is making progress on the cure, but it is also affecting her mental state and the house has gained a reputation for people disappearing.
I intended for this encounter to be a morally gray test of the party. They could choose to stop Lady Wingret and her killing, but if the allow her to live and finish her research (perhaps by going into the Feywild), they could help her finish the cure and save tends of thousands of lives.
I hope you’re able to use it as a part of your adventures!
