Temple Piece Feedback/Ideas!

[Art by Floris Roding]

I am thinking of doing some kind of temple piece, and I'd like to get your feedback on what you would like to see most.

The types of questions I'd have would be:

1. Ruined or Functional?

2. What biome - Forest, Mountain, Coast, Desert, Swamp, etc...

3. What lives there now?

4. If ruined, what was its original purpose?

5. Any other particular features you would like to see, etc...

Let me know, thanks!

1.Ruined trying to be restored 2. What biome -Swamp, 3. What lives there now? Serpent folk with draconic heritage 4. The original purpose of this temple was to attempt to communicate with the elder Gods in order to birth an avatar of Yig. 5. Features would be bridges for bottle necked fights multiple floors for ranged attacks , different statutes/or magical devices that have to be activated in order to stop the ritual.

I would find one that fits into the LMoP or DoISP setting useful. So either a temple to Talos or to Myrkul.

1. Ancient yet functional (ruin-like yet still working) 2. Rocky coast with high cliffs like fiords 3. An Aarakocra training ground, guarded by a flying sea serpent dragon, who can fly for seemingly endless lengths of time, like the Aarakocra could on the Elemental Plane of Air. 4. The home of the last remaining Wind Duke of Aaqa in the Material Plane, from the Haikjadeam caste, who teaches the lore and history of the Aarakocra - especially those who have never been anywhere except the Material Plane. I'd say the Aarakocra revere the Wind Dukes, but I don't know if it would go so far as to be considered "worship." The temple also includes a hoard, teleportation to and from the Star Mountains, and a more hidden, guarded teleportation to and from the Elemental Plane of Air through which other Wind Dukes might come to pay a visit or to teach other subjects. Plus, it is the secret, hidden location of the Rod of Seven Parts, with each part hidden in a different location. And possibly a djinn or two. 5. Absolutely no gargoyles. High ceilings and open spaces for indoor flight. A location for the flying sea serpent dragon to visit and/or commune with the Wind Duke. Or, possibly the Wind Duke takes on the form of the flying sea serpent dragon from time to time? Many nests and roosts, both indoors and outdoors on the cliffs or in the forest above. A classroom of some kind, perhaps more of a dojo than a school room. A secret underground back entrance or two to a prolific nest of mice which serve as food for the Aarakocra. Multiple entrances and places for defense or battle in the event that a gargoyle finds its way inside. Bonus: Perhaps a Kheirdeam Wind Duke, who's a cleric/healer, could visit from time to time to help a party to resurrect a character who died like Takoyakki suggested earlier. Perhaps one who would require the party to solve a series of puzzles before the ceremony, or who would ask the players to go on a scavenger hunt throughout the temple complex to discover all the materials needed for the ceremony. Plus a handsome fee, of course, for the upkeep and maintenance of the temple.

There's an Egyptian temple layout I've been looking at, which has 2 large open sections before getting to a tighter, indoor part of the temple.

I would prefer something in the dessert. I am less concerned about functionality. Powerful elemental forces/creatures (not just elementals themselves) would provide an unusual encounter for a temple setting. It would be nice to have some open ground in the map to allow for a more dynamic combat situation.

Gregory Johanek

1. Functional 2. mountain 3. dwarven (you know me) or... cultists worshipping a trapped devil. perhaps holds the final piece of his magical weapon and the demise of the players, if not careful.

Alaskankare

1. Functionnal 2.Coast or Mountain 3. Clerics worshiping one of the deity in the Lore where ritual and ceremony can help a party to resurrect a character who died. 5. Everything we need to do a resurrection ceremony (variant light effects.. Secrets to discover for allowing the players to do the said ceremony, magic patterns, puzzles.. etc)

Takoyakki

How about an ancient 30,000+ year old serpent themed temple surviving from the Days of Thunder, built by the Sarrukh and dedicated to the World Serpent Ouroborus, or to one of its many divine aspects such as M'daess, Merrshaulk, Shekinester, or Sss'thasine'ss?

I'd like to see a forest temple! One that's ruined, and where its elvish worshippers maintained a seal for some big boss at the end. The seal is eroding, things are coming out, and the party has to find it before the evil is unleashed.

Functional and Ruined (variants!) An ancient greek/roman temple surrounded by a city who are dedicated to their deity of love/prosperity. A small colloseum nearby where there are arena-fights/performances. A bathhouse nearby, beautiful gardens etc. Lots of white buildings with pillars It is located near the coast in a warmer climate and where people of all nations and races come together. It would be something completely different compared to your regular style!
