Artifact Illustration Contest - PATRONS ONLY!

It's Artifact Illustration Contest Time!

How does it work?

If you would like to submit an artifact, magic item or relic from your homebrew or current/future campaign for consideration, please write a 2-3 sentence summary of the piece background, and a one sentence description of the artifact or relic and submit that as a reply.

Once we have all submissions, I will put those into a poll and have the community vote on the one they'd like to see illustrated most that month!

Here's an example template.

Using a previous artifact, here would be my submission.

The Deadstone. This rough cut amethyst stands above one foot in height with dark purple hues and the greenish image of a trapped soul screaming from within. The Deadstone is a powerful artifact that holds the soul of a captured necromancer. It was plunged into his heart as he died, capturing his soul as it escaped his body and disallowing the body to be raised/restored through any curative magics. Only a powerful spell or force could break the enchantment and free the soul.

So, post your submission(s) over the week, and I will put them up for voting on Friday night (1/5/23)!

The winning submissions will be provided to an artist to illustrate, which will then be released to the community for use!

A favorite magic item from a friend. Magic socks of warmth. The socks are made of wool and keep your feet warm. They detect as magic, but all they do is keep your feet warm, even when wet, just like a normal pair or wool socks. This is really just a do nothing item that detects as magic for fun and entertainment in your game.

Monster Meals (one of many) Moon Drake Tartare Wondrous Item, Consumable Description: Crafted from the finely chopped raw meat of the elusive Moon Drake, this gourmet dish is garnished with shimmering mystical herbs, a drizzle of roc egg yolk, and a sprinkle of crushed ice crystals. The tartare is served on a chilled obsidian plate, and its appearance is an enticing mix of indigo and silver streaks. When it's near, you can almost hear a faint whisper, like the winds of a high-altitude night. Effect: Upon consumption, the player gains the ability to see perfectly for 60ft in both magical and non-magical darkness for the next 12 hours. Additionally, the player is infused with a touch of the drake's stealth, granting them advantage on stealth checks for the duration. History: Moon Drake Tartare is a dish known to only a few gourmet chefs in the realm, primarily those who cater to royalty or the wealthiest of patrons. The Moon Drake itself is notoriously difficult to locate and capture, making this dish a rare and expensive treat. Legends say that ancient assassins consumed this dish before undertaking the most covert of missions, allowing them to move like shadows through the night. Note: As with all wild-caught creatures, there's a code of ethics to consider. Many adventurers who learn of this dish may also become aware of the declining Moon Drake population, leading them to confront the dilemma of desire versus conservation.

Tatyanas Retribution - Weapon (rapier), artifact (requires attunement by a person Tatyana's spirit deems worthy.) A silver decorative rapier with a low burning green gem affixed in the pommel. This finely crafted rapier is an instrument of revenge. Imbued with all of the past lives of Tatyana. When Tatyana's soul is saved by the party she will bestow this gift upon the PC she deems worthy. A weapon crafted from the rage of 63 lives lost to the powers of barovia, Tatyana's Retribution is no ordinary rapier. This weapon is focused on one thing and one thing only, the destruction of Strahd Von Zarovich. You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. It has the following additional properties. Rage of lifetimes. The anger of Tatyana's past lives live on in this weapon. Whenever you are in combat with Strahd Von Zarovich you have advantage on all attack rolls against him and saving throws against his spells and effects. Sentience. Tatyana's Retribution is a sentient neutral good weapon with an Intelligence of 10, a Wisdom of 12 and a Charisma of 11. It has hearing and normal vision out to 30ft. This weapon communicates by transmitting emotion to the creature carrying or wielding it through sending a tingling sensation through the wielder's hand when it wants to communicate something it has sensed. It can communicate more explicitly when, through visions or dreams, when the wielder is either in a trance or sleeping. Personality. Tatyana's Retributions purpose is to destroy Strahd Von Zarovich. Conflict will arise if the wielder fails to act against him. This weapon carries all of the painful memories of each reincarnation of Tatyana. When the weapon feels like the wielder is not acting in a way it deems right it will glow brightly. Proficiency with a rapier allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
