Raider's Camp - Illustrated Scene

llustration by Alejo Ramos

Each month, I try and pass along the generosity you show me by employing other artists to create a variety of illustrations, portraits, magical items and other works of art that can be used in your games at home, whether they be homebrew or official modules.

This month, I wanted to highlight one of those pieces -- Raider's Camp - Hoard of the Dragon Queen, by Alejo Ramos.

This was our interpretation of the army camp of the raiders who are attacking the town of Greenest in the beginning of HotDQ. The players make their way to this camp as a follow-up to the opening sequence, and it's an interesting encounter because there are far too many soldiers to conquer by force, encouraging the players to adopt stealth, subterfuge and other creative approaches to gain access to portions of the camp.

While the size of the map included in the module was to scale, the illustration helps convey the sheer scale of the camp and superior numbers, making it crazy for even the most murdery of murder hobo's to attempt a full-on assault. I enjoyed the presentation of this piece so much, in fact, that I'd be tempted to use it to represent the entire campaign.

Here's the map that was create for the Raider's Camp, upon which this illustration was based.

I hope you enjoy the piece and seeing where some of your support goes!
