This update features Marissa, a harpy alien OC, for a request!
Setting & Background
Marissa is an original character from a sci-fi space exploration TRPG. She is a harpy alien with telekinetic abilities. As an infant, she was found in a crashed spacecraft and was raised by a human church as a nun. Over time, her deep curiosity about the universe led her to become an astronomer, as she sought to uncover the origins of her species.
Inspiration & Vision
...When reading about her backstory, what inspired me the most was the concept of a harpy alien. The reference images I received depicted her in a bright and adorable way, full of charm. However, I wanted to explore a different perspective—one that highlights the mystical and otherworldly nature of her existence.
Having grown up in a church and raised as a nun, I imagined her to have a pure and sincere heart. Yet, deep inside, there might be instincts that set her apart from humans. A scene came to mind: in the depths of an old church, she emerges from the shadows, completely bare, making no effort to hide her non-human form. Instead, she slowly spreads her magnificent wings, as if wordlessly asking, Aren’t they beautiful? Her innocent gaze carries a sense of sweetness, but within that youthful expression lies an eerie undertone. Is she looking at her lover with desire, or is it the gaze of a predator eyeing its prey…?
With this vision in mind, I created this artwork!
Art Process
I made some design adjustments, most notably giving her bird-like legs.
I also wanted to experiment with various techniques in this piece, particularly with her hair, wings, and legs, which led me to create a full-body artwork.
I considered making her float, but I thought having her walk on the underground chapel floor would enhance the atmosphere. I also thought about levitating objects, but in this artwork, it felt a bit too aggressive, so I decided against it.
Since this piece is a nude artwork, I needed to make a SFW version for public posting. Among her outfits, I chose the bold dress that accentuates her cleavage. Initially, I planned to make just two variations—one clothed and one nude—but as I refined the composition, I kept adjusting her eyes and mouth to better match the atmosphere I was aiming for. I created several expressions, including a gentle smile, but I deliberately chose the one that makes her emotions unclear. Through this process, I ended up adding more details, such as the pendant and visual effects, ultimately resulting in a fully layered PSD.
