Managed to finish Ys VIII last night. I had a lot of fun with it. By the end I was kind of sad it was over because I really enjoyed the characters for the most part. Plus the game play being a fast paced action game helped it a lot too. If the game play is slow and bothersome I'll typically tap out of it. Kinda like with Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Had to bail that one.
One bit that completely ripped me out of the moment was at the very end of the game. I managed to get the true ending without really aiming for it (or realizing there was one), and there was this little bit where you had an option to choose a response that wasn't that super important. One of those "choose A: Yes, B: Okay" type deals that had no real impact. However, NISA's translation patch fucked it up so a character's last line of dialogue wound up being option A. So the resulting bit would've looked something like.
"Hey! I've got a question for ya. Which do you prefer, hotdogs or hamburgers?"
A: ...hotdogs or hamburgers.
B: Hamburgers.
Kinda of pissed me off because I wanted to know what the fuck the actual option was. Worse it completely killed the touching moment the game was trying to have.
Anyway Ys VIII. Fun game. Played it on the Switch.
"Why didn't you get it for PS4?"
Despite the halved framerate and slowdowns at times, the Switch being able to go into sleep mode and bring the game back up within seconds makes it harder for me to go back to playing games on the PS4 if I have the option not to. When one thing has something that's more convenient for me than the other, I'm totally going with the convenience. Also portable mode.
