Picked up Final Fantasy 15 back on Tuesday, and just about almost beat it. Most fun I had in a Final Fantasy game since playing IX when I was 11. It's not without issues, though.
I really, really enjoy the gameplay in this one. So glad they ditched the old turn based battling system. As games have evolved, I've sort of lost patience with playing those types of games. Like, it isn't fun to me. It's roadblocks preventing me from getting to the story. The only turn based RPGs I can play these days are ones that I played a long time ago and have some sort of nostalgia for.
Downside in FFXV is the story. The characters are great, and it's fun to take this journey with them, but god damn does the story look like it went through a decade of revisions. I know, I know, that's exactly what happened. But honestly sometimes it's best to just completely restart the story. FFXV feels like they left chunks of the story intact from older versions and combined them with newer versions, which causes plot elements to be presented and then never actually explored. Like, at all.
I won't go into it more, in case others haven't gotten a chance to play it/get through it yet. Gameplay wise, it's probably the best. Story wise, I dunno. It's all right, but it does a pretty cruddy job at telling it.
