Added 2020-11-23 08:10:54 +0000 UTCI started rewatching The Wasteful Days of High School Girls, except with the English dub this time around. It's fine, is a bit stilted, but that's most of Sentai's dubs in general.
One thing that stuck out to me was the character Wota's voice. In the English dub she's played by Luci Christian (who is forever Miss Yukari to me), and someone I don't know in Japanese. The thing is, with Japanese to English dubs, it's not unusual for the English VAs to sound deeper than their Japanese counterparts. Typically due to Japanese VAs going for a higher pitched, cutesy sound. Depending on the US studio, they either try to mimic the high pitched Japanese voices to mixed results, or default to the VA's more natural voice. So hearing the character be a pitch lower in the dub is not unusual to me.
But in this case, it's the opposite: the Japanese voice is lower than the English voice. In a way I'm sad because I liked how deep her voice. Gave her some extra personality. Oh well. Miss Yukari still does a decent job anyway.
