Sentai Filmworks was bought out by AMC Networks. That news came out of left field, especially AMC Networks of all people. They weren't the first to come to mind when it came to purchasing anime licensors. But considering they also have a couple other niche streaming services, like Shudder, I like to believe they'll be in good hands.

My hope is that now with a larger company backing them, they'll be able to step up their simulcast licensing game. For years now they've relied on partnerships to get bigger titles (like with Amazon), but it was always small potatoes compared to what Crunchyroll and Funimation were able to snap up. They have a nice backlog of stuff, but most younger anime fans never care for that sort of thing. Another thing they do is list the people who worked on the English translation on the streaming video, which is really nice in terms of giving people their due credit.

I know people like the idea of having all their anime in one place, but having stronger competition will benefit consumers in the long run as companies try to step up their game. Of course this news is just breaking, so who knows how things will go down, but I like to think that good things will come of it. Sure, it sucks to lose another independent anime licensor, but it's also nice to know that there's a good chance of its continued existence (and not get scooped up by Sony for a even larger monopoly).

You know, the more I think about it the more I believe Kevin's question is a good one. What sort of video games, if any, a person enjoyed as child does say something about them.

Kevin… she’s a scientist, so if any I don’t think it’d be that interesting XD

Wow, Kev, way to ask about her life. At least ask what got her into wanting to make these bodysuits

Since I don't watch dubs, I can't tell.

I'm conflicted over the push to consolidate anime streaming. On one side fewer platforms streaming anime means a) no keeping up with multiple subs to watch everything you want each season and b) larger companies can afford to payout more for licenses helping the anime studios. On the other as you note the lack of competition could hurt the consumer in the wallet or might actually reduce the amount of anime available as larger "respectable" companies refuse to license more risqué titles.

To be fair, Sentai's dub output has always been kinda eeehhh. The scripts feel stilted.

Megazone

I'm hopeful that Sentai Filmworks will remain of reasonable quality, but the last few years of some...dubious sub and dub choices has left me concerned in this regard. And, considering who we're talking about here, of course what video games she played was going to be his first question!
