Saw Ride Your Wave tonight, the latest film by director Maasaki Yuasa. I thought it was really cute. It wasn't as sad as I thought it was going to be, but I still enjoyed it. Has that quirky Yuasa-ness in the animation that's always fun.
The film is basically about a woman trying to get over the death of her boyfriend, which she struggles because she always sees him whenever she sings a song that the two sung together on their first trip surfing together. From that you'd think it'd be pretty depressing, but there was plenty of upbeat comedic moments sprinkled throughout the film, and some neat surreal imagery that I think helped soften the blows. Of course as someone who's never had a romantic love interest, my lack of feelings could be because I can't relate to it as well.
It'll probably come out on bluray roughly 4-6 months. Check it out later if you get the chance.
