New season of anime started. So far the only thing I've bothered to check out is Kakushigoto.
For those who don't know, Kakushigoto was created by the mangaka of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. As someone who likes Koji Kumeta's art style, it's great to see it in anime form again. While it doesn't have as much visual flair as Zetsubou, which was animated by Shaft, I think it does a great job of keeping that flat look of the character designs.
The show is about a father raising his young daughter while also hiding the fact that he draws perverted manga for a living. He goes so far out of his way to pretend to be a salary man, dressing up in a suit when heading out to work everyday, only to go somewhere else to change into more relaxing clothes and then head to his studio. The first episode throws a bunch of obstacles and almost reveals his secret in hilarious vignettes. There's a funny scene where the daughter's friends wind up at a hipster bookstore with a starbucks and thinks its a den of evil monsters, with some guy ordering a drink being shown as if he's casting some sort of evil spell.
I'm not sure how long the show will stick to that routine of his daughter almost discovering his secret, but I'm sure it won't be long before it'll start having episodes satirizing Japanese society and politics. It's cute and fun.
Biggest issue is Funimation's player can't handle the kind of subtitling the show needs compared to that of Crunchyroll's. Plenty of moments where they do a poor job of separating bits of dialogue with signage, or some lines straight up not showing up. God forbid if their player ever had to show Zetsubou sensei's insane amount of on screen text.
