I was fine with Ash's new voice when watching Sun and Moon, but currently most of the acting has felt duller, in a sense. I take it as the VAs needing to get used to the roles/lack luster ADR directing. From what I read the new studio only dubbed episodes for two years before going bankrupt in 08, where it was then taken over by those who had worked on the dub prior. Maybe when I get to those episodes things will pick up.
What struck me was the last few episodes of the 4kids dub having major audio issues. There were terrible problems with the mixing, where parts of the audio had horrible compression while others didn't. Pikachu's voice had this bad echo-ey effect going on. Weirdest was the commercial bumper bit. The going to commercial bumper sounded okay, but the return to show bumper's was fucked up. The voice was fine but the bit of music was horrendously compressed.
My assumption is 4kids either stopped giving a shit when they learned they lost the license or they were super rushed to get those final episodes out and couldn't do anything about it.
