Back to work, I guess! I got to enjoy a nice Saturday without doing any comic work, which was nice. Course rest days don't last forever, so off we go again!
I finally got around to watch Inu-Oh the other night. It's about a pair of kids with physical disabilities getting together in 14th century Japan who use their artistic abilities to essentially become rock stars via Noh, a classical form of Japanese theater that involves dancing.
It was directed by Masaaki Yuasa, so it has some really cool animation to it.
But as a movie... I dunno? I enjoyed it, but at the same time my mind kinda turned off frequently while watching it. First off, the movie is kind of a rock opera. Not so much singing about their predicament, but singing these Noh stories in the style of rock and roll. Here's a clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dK2ZhgbvehE
This is more on me, but a lot of the time I become blind to lyrics when listening to music. I have to hear it a bunch of times before they really set in my brain, otherwise I hear someone's voice as just another instrument. Even with the lyrics being displayed on the screen, I stopped reading them and just watched the animation while bopping to the tunes. So good stretches of time I fell off as to what was going on.
It's a good movie, for sure, but I feel I need to watch it a few times for it to click for me.
