2019’s results. Contemplative mood before New Year.

Hello! First of all, I want to thank all my patrons and players for supporting me during the development. Especially, who stuck with me all the way from 2018. You are awesome, and without you, my games wouldn’t be what they are.

I guess 2019 was a decent year development-wise. Yorna received a lot of love and I tried my best adding new features and interesting bits to the game. It got some very heartwarming feedback about characters and their quirks that will definitely brighten my mood on rainy days. Overall, I can’t say Yorna fulfilled all the hopes I had for it but still did an “ok” job.

Then Ouro took over as the main project. Despite being chosen via a public poll and boasting very interesting and unique features like Live2d animation, it got a pretty “meh” reception. Guess hours spent on tinkering with this stuff didn’t pay off feedback-wise and I should’ve just kept Yorna’s way of doing things.

Guess I was too naive and overeager to give Ouro the best possible start and fucked up in smaller details. Looking back at the compromises and personal time sacrifices I had to make in order to achieve even this strange state, I can say these were mistakes. So, in 2020, I will be less aggressive with new features and other know-how bits and more focused on polishing what’s already in the game.

I’m developing games for more 2,5 years now and can’t say I planned to pour so much time into this at the moment where it all began without achieving the main goal. Sometimes the development is fun, sometimes it’s hard, sometimes it’s hellish. This constant state of flux is interesting but leaves a bittersweet taste if you’ll consider the price.

The “second scene per content” pack goal is a good example of this. Looks like I’ll need to think more about it and it’s possible I will take the goal down for a better life-work balance. In other aspects, my work will mostly stay the same. Don’t worry, I’ll still do my best, just not in such a zealous way.

Oh well… Am I good enough to finally reach the main goal of setting up a studio or at least getting a constant co-worker or it will remain a “goal too far”? 2020 will give a definite answer.  Happy New Year and see you there!

Got to get some sleep...

Ouro definitely has my attention, since I enjoyed Yorna .. I think it has the potential to become quite popular; seems like the "cyberpunk" style has been gaining traction these past few years -- to me, at least.
