SA: The game. Dev Diary 018 (Summary)

LINK: S-A The Game 0.1.0 (FEBRUARY 2018)

Hello friends, this is February 2018’s Dev Diary!

So this month, there’s a drastic change in how the game is being developed. Since the beginning of the game’s development, many aspects of the game have been worked on; animations, booth design, game design… all over the place. This was great to get a working prototype out and in your computers. Now, however, the game is going to be developed from start to finish; linearly, from the beginning, making sure everything is in its final version when you get it.

Starting from the beginning, like we have said, the title screen is now all complete, with a lovely collection of the Sex Arcade’s subjects in the background. The title menu opens right up into the new intro screen, which features a blurb and the intro comic which is still in it's rough draft stage, something that Sabu will be working on later. The intro section is still unfinished though, but will end with you getting a glimpse of the Sex Arcade.

Matron Jen is looking lovely and polished now, with animations to go along with her complete render, along with texturing and a completed office. With the visuals finalized, all there is to finish is the dialogue.

The room itself - and many of the backgrounds found in the game, for that matter - was made in SketchUp, and once the model has been completed it's taken to Keyshot for lighting, and then photoshop for colors. Finally, the animation is done in Spine which is used for building the nodes, bones and animation sets that the Matron needs to do.

The dialogue system is all finished up and what you’ll see is nearly the final version of what will be in the final game, acting as an introduction to the Sex Arcade universe. Demonstrations of mechanics of the Sex Arcade and the game will be provided for the player’s information later on.

Now, once the interview has been finished, we’ll be able to see the new Arcade staff section, which is now finished as well; looking absolutely gorgeous now isn’t it? From the previous build, the Sex Arcade is now fully rendered rather than being just a simpler wireframe-like sketch. Some of you may think: is it really necessary? Probably not, but it looks amazing, right? Plus, it's a hub section that you’ll be visiting often, so it might as well look good straight out the bat.

Other sections, you’ll be able to see, are still blacked out. This is for later on in the game, which will be unlocked as the player unlocks more and more areas as the game progresses.

Finally, the shopkeeper is there, though not much has changed since her last appearance. More polishing and drawing needs to be done, of course, so stay tuned! Sabu’s plan for the coming month is to make the whole area more polished and of course expanding what can be visited, including the Player’s own room.

One final thing: the patreon associates are still being worked on so don’t worry. Sabu plans on releasing them by the end of the month, so they’ll be there next month when the next Dev Diary rolls out!

The audio was not implemented yet, it will probably take some months until I get to it, I want to finish the basic stuff first before get to the audio.

Sabu

To be honest i didn't yse a lot of videos to learn sketchup, but this series seems to be pretty good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsHRGDvN4sM

Sabu

Also when will Audio be incorporated to the booths? Its been a few months since I last played so I am sorry if I missed it.

Deviant Otaku

do you have any recommended videos on how to make basic background assets in sketchup? I have both design doll, sketch up, and paint tool sai. Id love to make great references for future artwork for myself and other lineartists. But I am just clueless on the programs.

Deviant Otaku

I know resolutions aren't easy to handle in game development, but 1920x1200 would be lovely since I'm playing on a 4k screen. That said, keep up the good work! Love the attention to detail, and the new menu backgrounds

Ah okay, thank you for the calrification. I'm eager to see what'll come up next month.

From now on the game will be developed following the path the player will take in the game, so far i only manage to get to the Staff area, next month i will be adding the dialogue with Shopkeeper lily and other stuff.

Sabu

Thanks for the headsup! all the dialogues will be re-worked by Redfred on the next months, the current ones were written by myself just to give him the direction the dialogue will follow, but the actual wording will be changed later on.

Sabu

You're correct Nixilis, all the other stuff like the Shopkeeper lily dialogues and the booth area itself will be added as the development goes on in its final version of polishing.

Unfortunately no, at least not at the moment, I might try to make a 1920x1200 option later on, but i cant really grantee it, the only confirmed options for resolution are the ones already implemented.

Sabu

is there a possibility to make the screen bigger? It only takes up 1/4 of my screen with the resolution set on 1440x900?

Same here.

Umr63

cant start game, shopkeeper lily say :sorry,i've got nothing to say right now, come back no the next build¬¬what it?

Some spell checking needs to be done. It's not wrong spelling, but rather wrong words used in some cases.

rocketdrive

Seems normal. Like said in the Dev. Diary, the 0.1.0 build is the WIP of the finished game where previous builds were prototypes. Everything that will be added here won't be touched back after, so it needs to be all in the same quality for uniformised aesthetics. Which means everything "finished" is added. Here, the Matron, her office, and the staff area. I guess what we already seen in previous build will come on the next ones, like hinted for the backers own avatars. I guess. Something like that I think.

Nixilis

Seem to be stuck after talking to the Matron - apparently the shopkeeper has "nothing to add in this build"...any tips?
