It's a shame you don't point out that Wilde was also a socialist. Is that part of the homogeneous European monoculture that Mark wants saved from erasure?

I haven't watched yet because I need a minute to steel myself for the fact that Mark Collett is Still A Thing

Wonderful video. I was really impressed with analyzing the painting, it's certainly not anything I'd have thought of - I just see rich people in that picture.

Excellent work as always. It would be really interesting to see a collection of videos depicting your process in writing, researching, and breaking apart fascist content.

When the 13th Century Knights of the Round Table are a more diverse group than Mark Collett's friends. Also, great video, love the history one's Shaun! <3

When I studied Archaeology in York I remember seeing a coin found in a local dig from North Africa, the specifics escape me but it doesn't surprise me that people from all over the Roman Empire would be all over the Roman Empire! It was pretty big! And of course the British Empire took over most of the damned planet, so is it of no shock that mixed races and cultures have been a thing for a long time? Facists baffle me.

Too short! T__T

"There's a difference between selling out your ideas and selling your ideas, and the British National Party isn't about selling out its ideas (which are your ideas too), but we are determined now to sell them. And that means, basically, to use these 'saleable' words, as I say - 'freedom', 'security', 'identity', 'democracy' - nobody can criticise them. Nobody can come at you and attack you on those ideas, they are 'saleable'. Perhaps one day, once by being rather more subtle, we've got ourselves into a position where we control the British broadcasting media, then perhaps one day the British people might change their mind and say 'yes, every last one must go'. Perhaps they will one day. But if you hold that out as your sole aim to start with, you're going to get absolutely nowhere. So, instead of talking about 'racial purity', we talk about 'identity.'"

I also really enjoyed the video but likewise didn't see my name in the credits.

Loved it. Nice work!

Sorry patreon doesn't let me do line breaks on mobile, and you may cover this later. Enjoying the video, just looking for things people will try to poke at :)

I think the point for Lancelot not needing to be white is one of the weaker ones here. The others just refer to *some* non-white Victorian/Roman soldier, but the Lancelot one specifically refers to Lancelot. It's easy to say in response that there may be *some* non-white knights of the round table, but that Lancelot isn't one. I think arguing "Lancelot wasn't real, it doesn't matter" is also particularly weak because it opens the door for people to say "X non-white character isn't real, it's okay for me to whitewash them? HA double standards" without understanding that the difference in societal power between white and non-white folks is really important...

I'm having trouble understanding the audio in the video around 1:00. Could you add some subtitles for us poor Americans, please?

Nice work, Shaun! Brings to mind an excerpt of an article by Tim Wise about White Identity in the U.S.: “Most of European history had been about killing each other, building some truly beautiful churches, and looking for the witch. There was never pan-European unity, let alone a concept like whiteness to bind us to one another. But in the colonies, the rich needed to divide and conquer working peoples — the riff-raff — so as to vouchsafe their economic status, which they felt was threatened by the prospects of class-based rebellions across lines of color. So they began referring to poor Europeans as whites for the first time and extending certain privileges to them so as to place even the lowliest “white” person above all defined as non-white. By doing so, they could endow the European peasant class with a “psychological wage” (as W.E.B. DuBois put it), which allowed them to think, “I might not have much, but at least I’m not black.” Of course, psychological wages don’t pay the bills or allow for much financial security in a system built for the wealthy, so the price of accepting our newfound caste status as whites was the cementing of elite domination over us as well. It kept us quiet and acquiescent, and fighting people of color over the pieces of a pie that none of us owned. Thus, to be proud of being white is quite literally to be proud of having been suckered by rich folks, conned into thinking we have more in common with billionaires who happen to share our skin tone than with the black and brown folks who struggle to make ends meet just like most whites do.”

On the rhetorical question at the end of the video: Have you ever heard the phrase "L'Afrique commence aux Pyrénnées"? I suspect you gonna hear some of that as answer.

You addressed the roman soldier, victorian soldier, doctor who, and sir lancelot, but I don't think you addressed joan of arc. Video debunked, QED.

Try saying that to a Joyce Scholar.

Nice video! I loved the mention of Oscar Wilde! The funny thing about Oscar Wilde is that a lot of people, a lot more than you'd think, assume him to be English, and don't know he was Irish. So it's not a surprise that someone would see him in a painting and, with no knowledge on the topic, assume he was English. Probably because he was such a prolific writer, and wrote so beautifully, that people thought an Irish man couldn't write as well as him. Oscar Wilde was also a socialist. Sorry, I really like Oscar Wilde....

Great video, but I didn't see my name in the credits. -That came off more sarcastic than I intended. I really like the video! I just wanted to let you know.

Thanks Shaun :)
