I noticed that in transitions from a picture/video to your avatar, that you avatar was noticeably distorted/compressed for a good second or more. I'm not sure if this is because of the editing or YouTube's compression algorithm, but you might want to look into that.

great video, as always

SLEAZOIDS podcast

I laughed out loud at that last comment, though I agree it might not not be the best line when talking to people that don't already love your videos enough to pay actual money to see them early. I second the JSTOR comment, too. Its not very relevant to this video, but medical students like myself also get access to the BMJ and a bunch of other medical journal that might not all be on JSTOR. I'm sure other people have access to different subject specific studies, too. It might be worth making a patron only post if you come across something you can't access, although I appreciate the comment about this appearing biased. Great work as always!<3

Any chance you got headphones/speakers that need a high power requirements? from what I understand, If your DAC (Your pc would have a relatively weak one by default) can't output enough voltage for something that need a lot, you would get a lack of volume. I got my volume at around a quarter personally with my setup.

i may be a Libertarian, but i sincerely love your videos. you have pulled me away from a lot of dishonest Youtubers, and i appreciate how much work you put into research and tackling tough topics at times. you've helped me see that Lauren is too biased for her own good, and it's kinda sad really, just wish she could stop being so dishonest when pushing her world views.

Utomneian

hot diggity dang if lauren didnt just spout damn near every toxic idea that girls actively DO NOT need to hear! hooo weee i wouldnt be living in constant existential angst if it werent for my exposure to these concepts hohohaha! to me, the idea that sex has a much more severe psychological impact on females than males (and similar nonsense) just screams female inferiority and i dont like when people tell me im doomed to be worse off biologically due of something i cant control because part of me starts believing its true hehe :~) awesome video as always, thanks for exposing her bias and showing how flimsy these "promiscuity" theories are. so glad there's content creators like you out here keeping it real

This video is so cathartic. Thank you for making it. I've always wanted to make youtube videos responding to these kinds of tradcon talking points, but I don't think I could handle the kinds of comments that I've seen directed at other women on the internet. The size of Lauren's platform (and the dedication of her audience) is so concerning, especially considering all the wrong information thrown around. I'm a longtime viewer who just became a Patron, and I'm so excited. Keep doing you.

Mae

While I agree with the god is real comment not being right for your intended audience, I'm glad you included it in this version for us because I burst into delighted and startled laughter. Preaching to the choir director's cut.

Ayyyy studios

Oh I agree. I was just making the suggestion for in the future, should he need access to these databases. (Scholarly sources shouldn't be held behind a paywall anyway, imo)

Benzylmorphine

I thought this as well, but I think it sounds better in a video to be able to say "I acquired this source myself and paid for it" rather than "my patreon followers kindly provided it to me". The latter can make it sound like he's being fed information by people in his bubble, and sounds a bit weaker considering he's showcasing that Lauren has been lazy about finding her sources. He's sort of providing the example of what you should responsibly do as someone with a big platform attempting to inform viewers (very charitable perspective on Lauren, but that's part of it too, isn't it).

Mark Price

I should have access to JSTOR (and many other scholarly databases) for at least another year, and I bet some of your other patrons do too, who would give you the login info.

Benzylmorphine

My comment is similar to the people who don't like the god isn't real comment (I liked it but I get what they mean) if you specifically do want to reach conservative types you could consider changing the reference to old white men in terms of Lauren's sources. I find right-wingers just instantly write anything that uses that kind of characterisation off as racist - probably disingenuously, but they will dismiss anything that even references whiteness - especially in conjunction with oldness and maleness. If you aren't really trying to persuade them I'd keep it in though, it's accurate.

toastfortea

I wonder whether ending with the line "God isn't real" might not put off some of the audience that you hope to sway in you closing comments. I am not sure it is a good idea to tie your sensible approach to choosing sexual partners to religion. People can be very emotively driven by their religious thoughts and upbringing and might ignore everything else you say because you then say "God isn't real." It isn't that you are wrong, but it might stop your argument going across for some of the audience. (Looking at the comment above I am not alone in this thought.)

Laurence Willis

Is it possible to increase the volume? I've got the slider maxed out and its really quiet for me. I had the same problem with the Unite the Right video

Samael

Also, if the whole point is to have a conservative listen to views different then their own, at that point they've seen your entire video. If they dismiss the entire video because of a one off joke at the end then they aren't engaging with the content critically in any way. It's honestly a good litmus test of whether they honestly want to hear opinions different from their own.

I know you're removing the joke at the end but I thought it was funny. Conservatives won't even be watching that far anyway. If anything, I'd cut out the part where you address them, they don't deserve it.

As per usual, it's a great piece. I don't like the "god isn't real" part at the end there, though. I'm an atheist myself, so I agree with you, but I think it's the wrong time and place, because you were specifically reaching out to young conservatives who are likely to be religious, and the video wasn't about religion directly. As it stands, it seems to me to be a "preaching to the choir" throwaway joke that only alienates the audience you were addressing a second earlier. I think if you're serious about reaching out to young conservatives to help them change their mind, these kind of jokes are just counterproductive and detract from the great things you said right before that. (That was a pretty long comment about three words. I'm struggling to get across that it's not the words themselves I have a problem with, just the time and place.)

Jasmijn Wellner

Is there a source you could put for the throwaway that men lie high about the number of sexual partners and women lie low? It seems to me like it’s true but I feel like when you make a video like this scrutinizing sources you’ll have to be meticulous about citing anything you say as fact too.

Sloane

This is just a small nitpick, but at around 31:15 you suggest reasons why it's possible that poverty, and associated factors that typically accompany poverty, could be linked to earlier sexual activity. I recognize that you're doing it to make a point at how academically dishonest Lauren & Co are being, particularly the Heritage Foundation, but I think that mentioning poor adolescents are less likely to have "support of parents or guardians" as one of these factors may be a bit of a reach to state without citing a source. I hope you link to one in the final version. Obviously, this is my subjective experience, but as a kid who grew up relatively poor but with amazing parents, it seemed like too casual of a 'throwaway.' Great video as always Shaun! <3

I do like, but I'm also now missing the hypothetical "way to leave out LGBTQ people" and the rest video.

jesus. How did you ever manage to sort through all this bullshit? It's honestly a bit painful to watch the transparent wringing of facts into whatever odd shape they can manage to almost pass off. There is nothing left to fact check that I can see, you've laid out all the source material so thoroughly. excellent job. honestly I'm a bit fond of statisticbrain after all that. Sure they're just putting down numbers in a table, but they're doing their darnedest to supply you with the best ones they can think of.

Mark Price

Congrats on making the exact same comment as me by using only a quarter of the characters.

Gordon Stearns

I wonder if it's a bad idea to end the video with a joke about how God isn't real? I'm imagining a Lauren Southern fan watching this, and maybe potentially seeing some truth to what you're saying, but if they're on the fence, that last sentence will probably convince them that you're not worth listening to. Idk, maybe it's idealistic of me to assume that a LS fan would even be on the fence based on reasonable, logical rebuttal - hard to logic someone out of a belief they weren't logicked into - but still, just a thought I had. Great video otherwise, it's always nice to see someone who actually cares about sources, rather than letting people get away with just making a list of random links in their descriptions.

Gordon Stearns

I'd cut out the "God isn't real" thing at the end if you really want to reach as many people as possible. I think it cheapens the video, which is otherwise bloody good.

Timothy Crittenden

Thank you, Shaun!

woo.

Hooray for early posts!! You Shaun are a hero.
