Mini-Episode 29: The Battle Over History Podcasts

The Atlantic magazine has recently published an article by Arash Azizi entitled “The Dangerous Rise of The Podcast Historians”—a rather harsh critique of the field of which I am part. So, in this episode, I sharpen the knives, analyze Azizi’s argument and provide my reply. As Bugs Bunny used to say, “Of course, you realize this means war.”

Thank you so much!

Thank you for this episode. I really like this one. I listened to it several times and couldn't agree more that scholars need to do more. Frankly, they need to do podcasts, post on Youtube, explain their points of view to media better and basically become engageable entertainers as well as scholars. Frankly, this should be the price of becoming a scholar. To know that the work is never done nor is the fight. However, I find your conclusion not only depressing but wrong ;) You say that you don't see a point when scholars will do this - BUT you are. Your conclusion is self-deprecating and does not acknowledge that you are doing the exact thing you are calling for.... You are hope, sir. Vive la Danielle!!!
