2020-06-22 17:41:43 +0000 UTCThey could have easily gone into some pretty insensitive territory with all the parallels they drew, but I think they made all the right choices. Like Angel and Judy both being torn between two worlds and being rejected by both only really works by making Judy white-passing, since Angel is white. They don't have equivalent experiences by any means, but Angel can somewhat understand her experience because of who he is. I'm also glad that if they were going to portray a lynching, it was with a white character.
