Just joined for Xena as well. And am enjoying your comments. I feel like rewatching with a reactor like Liam is as close to reliving the first time experience as we can get. So this journey is such a pleasure. Xena deserves so much more recognition from reactors and modern viewers.

I think that’s the interest for me with first time reactors to my favourite art/entertainment. What I wouldn’t give to be able to watch Xena for the very first time again. “Argh. You played me.” And he loves it too. She does play him like a fiddle. But he wouldn’t have it any other way. That’s the interesting dynamic between them. His admiration and respect for her as a warrior in the end always wins out over his plans to get her back on his side again. He’ll never admit it in front of her of course but he loves the good Xena and this informs his good nature too. He is quite the character with a significant evolution of his own.

Or listserves?). It depended on when it aired in each market who got it worked out first. I remember trying my best to pause and parse them.

It's a play off the "no animals were harmed during the making of this program" thing. Consider watching to the end of the credits to see them. Some of them are really funny.

2021-05-08 19:51:55 +0000 UTCI admit I was looking forward to this one. Ares is a cunning tempter, charismatic and seductive. Gabrielle, attorney-at-law, is great to watch. And Xena’s striking of Gabrielle in a fit of rage is an important moment, where we see that the show’s not just SAYING that Xena has a strong and dangerous dark edge, they’ll actually back it up.

But seeing her tying the rope around her own neck to prevent Xena's execution and coming right back with an inventive escape plan without any hard feelings after Xena hit her really shows the kind of woman she is.

Loved how on edge this story kept you and for a while there on first viewing its a little unsettling to wait and see which direction Xena will choose to go in. Also its genuinely shocking to see her strike Gabrielle when lost in her rage and its proof that "the stone is still under there" unless Xena continues to control it and fight for good. Says a lot about Gabrielle's character though that she returns to help her friend and forgives that moment.
