2023-11-03 17:34:05 +0000 UTCNo, Gabrielle’s first kiss was with Sphearus in ‘Chariots Of War’ but only because she planted one on him to get away from the drunk man. Another one of her talents. Persuasion. And she says she’s got lots of faults. I can count more talents than faults.

Going to be interested in your reactions to some of the eps coming up in the back half of season one. There are, imo, some really amazing episodes you’re coming up on.

2021-06-13 01:45:27 +0000 UTCAs Koz said, Herc and Xena would make clip shows much more interesting than the more standard ones often used where a character was usually injured or wounded and the other characters remember their times with them while they try to pull through. Herc and Xena would build a new story around the clips additions which was a much fresher and more enjoyable way to do it. I've always had a soft spot for this episode a) because its Gabrielle-centric and b) as a writer and storyteller myself I appreciate its messages about telling the story you want to tell without outside interference or manipulation and enjoying the journey of the process of telling it- something i still try to do when i write. Also as Koz mentioned its quite a blast to see some clips from the Steve Reeves Hercules movies in there as well as from the classic Stanley Kubrick version of Spartacus. (Great film by the way if you haven't seen it!)

2021-06-13 00:45:52 +0000 UTC“Athens City Academy of The Performing Bards” was a play on the New York City Academy of The Performing Arts. Clip shows are an occasional budgetary necessity, and while probably no one’s favorite, I believe that Xena and Hercules do them better than any other show I’ve ever seen. In this particular show, I really liked the use of clips from totally unrelated things to portray other people’s stories, including both old Hercules movies (starring Steve Reeves and others) as well as the classic Spartacus. It’s fun to have Kirk Douglas and Jean Simmons as guest stars of sorts on your syndicated fantasy/action show.
