It's too bad the subs were missing...one of my favorite scenes is when Legolas says "300 against 10,000... they are all going to die" and Aragorn snaps at him saying "Then I shall die as one of them!" -- Without the context of what Legolas says, Aragorn's line just doesn't hit the same. And later Legolas apologizes for his despair, which doesn't make as much sense without knowing what was said. The body language helps, but it only goes so far.

Middle films sometimes struggle to have as much strength as the others in a trilogy but this is a superb film in its own right. The battle of helm’s deep is just incredible and those that have tried to better it never succeed. I admit though I did every so often shout look up Liam when you weren’t looking at the screen in case you missed things. Lol.

What Galadriel says to Elrond is a repeat of what she said in the opening narration of The Fellowship of the Ring, this time without her accompanying translations: 'I amar prestar aen; han mathon ne nen, han mathon ne chae a han noston ned 'wilith'. Aka: 'the world is changed; I feel it in the water, I feel it in the earth, I smell it in the air'.

2021-07-24 13:56:19 +0000 UTCWith Faramir..mostly in the book he wasn't as difficult as here..but guess they wanted him to have more a dramatic and conflicting character. And plus, the big flashback scene with Boromir & Faramir with their father as a new scene added. Added a bit more context to both of their pressure from him and stuff. While he was a bit much in this..he will get better. And Sam..man I love him, he always has scenes that really bring me to tears..but other than that, this one was pretty amazing..I so cannot wait for your watch of The Return of the King..be prepared.

2021-06-24 23:16:53 +0000 UTCSome rippers will strip out all of the subs and audio languages that the file is not using, some leave in the subs of the elvish and the other languages. (Dwarvish, Black Speech etc). I'm not sure how they do this though, I don't know enough about it. The body language and context is helpful, but it's still a bummer for you not to have the subs. I don't know if I'd understand it well if I didn't aready know, a strong ability to read body language is emphatically not my thing.

2021-06-22 07:36:13 +0000 UTCI have watched those exact scenes in elvish with subtitles on the DVD's I have, without the need to specifically pick them or anything like that, they were just there whether you were watching the rest of the movie with closed captions or not, I don't know why this version didn't have them.

2021-06-21 21:20:33 +0000 UTCRe the languages it's the other way around. Tolkien invented the elvish languages and the entire lore and history came afterwards, to explain who was speaking the languages and why, where they came from etc. It's crazily amazing. :-D

2021-06-21 16:57:12 +0000 UTCSometimes elvish is subtitled in these movies, sometimes not, depending on if the audience is meant to understand it. So it's a bit hard to tell for sure, but I do think there are subtitles missing here that should be included (I checked again, some of it should definitely be subtitled. I don't think you missed much of significance, the gist of the scenes is pretty clear, but it might not be a bad idea to make sure you have a version with subtitles for the third movie). And yeah, Tolkien who wrote the books invented an entire functional elvish language for them so if you have the patience you can really learn and understand it, it's really cool.

2021-06-21 07:23:17 +0000 UTChey pippin did something right. Arwen (the elf lady) is Liv Tyler....also from the movie armageddeon and her father is the steve tyler from the band aerosmith. I think some of the elvish was not meant to be translated nothing to do with closed caption working or not (of course some crazy geeks out there have broken down the whole made up elvish language just as some did with the ones from star trek so you could probably find translations somewhere)
