I kinda like Robin, though he's a bit condescending. Definitely don't see him and Buffy as a couple. Unpopular opinion: I didn't like Angel and Buffy as a couple π€

2021-09-14 19:42:39 +0000 UTCThough they should have tried harder to work with Buffy instead of undermining her, Wood and Giles were 100% right about Spike. He is unrestrained and is free to explore the house all the time. If Spike had been triggered at the start of this episode in the alley, Wood would have died, leaving Buffy alone against 3 vampires and Spike (who has killed 2 slayers before). It was only through The First's lack of vision and plot convenience that Spike hasn't been triggered to kill them all now. Lets also take a moment to appreciate Anthony Stewart Head's acting. There are no lines conveying Giles' emotions in that basement scene between him and Wood. But Anthony really took such a long pause before agreeing to the plan, which really helped us understand that Giles genuinely gave the situation and his relationship with Buffy a lot of thought. It's interesting that you mentioned that Buffy and Wood are dating. They have not been overtly romantic since 3 episodes ago, and even then it was barely a blip. Do we think they make a good couple? Yay or nay?

2021-09-14 02:44:32 +0000 UTCOn Spike-Angel differences, one that I've thought about a little bit over the years is that Angel was raised a Catholic and remains as a vampire quite attached to Catholic rites and symbols. William, as a Victorian Englishman of a relatively high social status, was almost certainly a Protestant, and judging by the end scene in "Beneath You," he's still a believer (looks to heaven and says, "It's what YOU wanted, isn't it?" before draping himself on the cross). Catholic response to sin is acts of contrition, confession, telling beads... it's very active, and requires an outside force to offer absolution, which Angel can't get. Protestantism involves absolution through grace--your actions may prove that you're "saved," but they don't cause you to be saved. That happens in a leap of faith, in which you are washed clean of the sin. William/Spike seems to behave as if the return of his soul was being "saved"--he is already washed clean, and anything else is between him and is higher power. He's literally been born again. He may feel remorse for his prior actions, but he doesn't feel <i>guilt</i> for them. (Note, I'm not suggesting that the showrunners had any of these beliefs--they didn't--just that they used them well int he contrasts between these two characters.)

2021-09-14 01:23:33 +0000 UTCIt's not out of character for him to be, let's say, skeptical, and yes, it's a risk to have Spike around (though Buffy actually understands this, and has taken it into account already, deciding it was worth that risk). The problem for me was the sneaking around, not discussing it, and allying with Robin behind Buffy's back to trick her. It was a level of disrespect for Buffy's judgment that strikes me as severely out of character.

2021-09-14 00:43:25 +0000 UTCYeah I loved his comments on that too. Angel and spike are very different characters. In a way, spike is more mature and "black and white" with how he is. Tye way they both were when they got their souls back too, is interesting. Angel spend years crawling around the dirt, feeling awful for his past. Spikes seemed to accept that he was a an entirely separate entity before his soul was returned. He was a demon and so it was like a completely different person. To seek redemption for a different person would be a pointless task. Instead he wanted to get his soul so that he would no longer be that monster. No longer do things his demon half did (like attempted rape etc) and he talks about that I 7x2. "To be the man who could never......" anyway I'm waffling now!

2021-09-14 00:34:53 +0000 UTCI dislike it being so close the end of the show, them having that slip of trust and straining the Biles relationship, coz I love their bond generally. However, though I don't like it, I think ots still great character writing. For Giles to always keep questioning and testing buffy even after 7 years. He's also human and he makes mistakes or misjudged situations on occasion, he's not the "always correct" deity figure and we still get to see these moments of him where he makes a wrong choice or does what he think is right but ends up betraying buffys trust for what he thinks is the right choice. I think he's also very aware of buffys feelings for spike and worries that they get in the way of her judgement. Echoing how he was when she was with angel.

2021-09-14 00:29:40 +0000 UTCI disagree, he's shown he's willing to do the darker things that Buffy shies away from. Him killing Ben in The Gift is all the proof you need of that. And quite frankly, he was 100% right in this episode.

2021-09-14 00:16:59 +0000 UTCSpike never pulls punches, well not Meta, he's a Punk at heart, he will tell you how it is, wether you want to hear it, is diff. He knows what's what, but admits when he had done wrong, tho he would never lower himself to anything or anyone again. He cares about Buffy, & Buffy cares about the Mission, tho I think she cares about Spike a little too. Altho times are Cray Cray, & Wood needs to get over his personal vendetta, & either get it together, or fall away from Buffy's Army. Giles is concerning, in a way he is only looking out for everyone's needs, but in another he didn't give Spike a choice. Buffy has the last say, in the end, & the battle has yet to begin.
