Writing:
In elementary school I was in a year-long program ("Odyssey of the Mind") with 5 other students in adapting Romeo and Juliet into a ten-minute comedy, which we for some reason called "Kissy Kissy Goo Goo". In the marriage scene, one of our members would come on as stagehand, holding up a plexiglass between Romeo and Juliet as they "kissed", then holding the lipstick-stained glass up to the crowd and announcing, "This kiss will last forever!" before walking off stage. The scene is reimagined above by Billis with surprising accuracy. The play wasn't a musical, but I think I wrote some lyrics around it at the time, and later recorded a full musical adaptation of the show in high school, of which this song is a highlight. The second half, "Lovers in the Season of Fall," is possibly the oldest song I've written complete with music and lyrics; I definitely made that one at the same time as the original "Kissy Kissy Goo Goo". I'm not sure if it was meant for the play, but I remember hearing it in my head as I hung out with friends on a leaf-strewn playground.
