I find a lot of Beiber's song with heavier, more clubby beats to be really catchy. I just can't help myself. I even enjoyed As Long As You Love Me. I tried to hate him, but ended up just kinda meh about him.

2015-11-21 06:50:03 +0000 UTCI actually like Stitches better than What Do You Mean, maybe because despite it's many, many, many, many, many flaws, it is actually catchy enough to remember. I leave it on sometimes, unlike the Bieber song where I can't put it on in the car in fear of falling asleep. Great episode Todd! :)
2015-11-20 02:57:42 +0000 UTCThis was also how I felt about these songs. Some of the lines in Justin's song are pretty thoughtful and make you curious about the underlying narrative ("you say you're running out of time, what do you mean?") while "Stitches" is at best a collection of cliches. It is catchy, but it's hard to take a heartbreak song seriously when it's so generic and understated, it only seems to come across as whiny.
2015-11-19 17:21:10 +0000 UTCNice review Todd. If I had to choose between these two i would pick stitches by Shawn Mendes. Bieber's song is not bad, but i just find it monotone and boring.
2015-11-19 16:01:58 +0000 UTCWhoa, another versus episode? I never thought I'd see you do this format again. Last time was Counting Stars vs Demons.
2015-11-19 14:38:11 +0000 UTCStitches was one of those songs where I found it difficult to articulate why I disliked it, I just kept skipping it every single time it came up. You're right; it's a combination of the non sequitur lyrics and the whiny vocal tone. Nick Jonas failed miserably at using Chains as a metaphor, but at least he was talking about a bad, possibly abusive relationship and not just whining about a breakup.
