This video is what made me start pledging money. It explains things so much clearer and calmer than I can.

Yes, I'll gladly mirror this; it was really organized, thoughtful and well presented. Tell us if there's any way we can help :(

ThatKat

Welp, that was incredibly dumb. Fascists being fascists. Just came by to offer support and encouragement. You're one of my favorite content producers to listen to.

Sorry about the false flag. Hopefully you can get around it soon. Either way, keep up the good work.

Didn’t get to see it before it was pulled. :( Would probably be a good idea to mirror it on another site or provide DropBox or similar downloads for patrons.

CuddleFiend

Do you allow people to mirror your videos in case this happen again ?

Snapping Snapper

SHEEYIT. I thought if I Patreon’d I’d get to see the video..! Make that happen or... I’ll probably just keep paying you because you deserve it.

Anna

Was just watching this on youtube when the feed cut and it said that the video was flagged for hate speech. I'm sorry to see this happen. Though I have not seen it full through I can't imagine one of your essays turning to actual hate speech, so I became a patron to show support. Anyway please let us know if there is anyway to push back against the people who incorrectly flagged your video or if there is anything we can do to help.

Well holy cow. Was in the middle of showing this video to my wife when it stopped and said there was a problem playing it. Refreshed the video on my phone and it had been removed from YouTube for "hate speech". I can't think of a more anti-hate speech video on I've seen in recent months. I'm really sorry dude. Glad I got to watch it before it was flagged. I've heard it is really hard to get these kinds of things reviewed and decisions over turned by YouTube. Do you have much experience with this or any faith in the system? It was an excellent video

As with Jannis above: Added a correction and made it a pinned comment. Thanks!

Hey Ian! I'm Elm11, moderator of /r/AskHistorians on Reddit, and myself and a number of team-members are fans of your work. This piece has been another excellent addition to your series, and is thoroughly excellent. I do have a small-but (I hope) important quibble with your wording at 19:28, where you refer to Dachau Concentration Camp, established in 1933, as 'The First Death Camp.' While Dachau was horrific and the site of many deaths, even prior to the massive overcrowding and deterioration in conditions which lead to the murder and deaths of thousands of prisoners during World War Two, it is not accurate to refer to it as a 'Death' or 'Extermination' camp, which are firmly understood in scholarship to be distinct as one of the mechanisms of the Final Solution during the Holocaust. Dachau, as a Konzentrationslager / Concentration Camp, was established and maintained as part of Nazi Germany's distinct and far-earlier political imprisonment system. An authoritative overview (though a very weighty tome) of this system is Nikolaus Wachsmann's 'KL: A History of the Nazi Concentration Camps', which you can find here: https://www.amazon.com/KL-History-Nazi-Concentration-Camps/dp/0374535922 If you could add a note to your video to say something like 'Concentration camp, not death camp' or something like that, I'd hugely appreciate it. It's a minor distinction but a very important one with respect to Holocaust scholarship. Feel free to drop me a line here or to contact us on reddit.com/r/AskHistorians if you'd like to discuss this! (Sorry if this is a repost? Patreon's comment system is a bit weird and when I went back to edit a typo, it appears to have deleted my post!)

Watching the video right now; you argue that Hitler was elected, which is a commonly cited argument in how fascists can get to power through democracy. Are you aware that this is not as distinct in history as just that? Hitler's NSDAP was only second-strongest party in the 1933's elections - but Hitler and a number of powerful industrials pressed Hindenburg, german chancellor of the time, to put the Reichstag (~congress) out of power, also by Hitler completely rejecting any discussions on building a coalition that didn't make him chancellor even though he, well, wasn't elected to be one. Eventually, Hindenburg collapsed under the pressure of the economical power Hitler's supporters had and the lack of support in his own government, and agreed to make Hitler chancellor; then he put the Reichstag out of power, and from there Hitler started to put his fascist political environment into place by restricting freedom of press, putting other political institutions out of power that'd restrict his political reach, and by starting his full-force propaganda campaign against political opponents. Hitler certainly used democracy to get into power, but he never achieved the majority of votes nation-wide and used the few states the NSDAP did get majorities in as best as he could to achieve his goals. I get that your video doesn't have the time to elaborate on this, but I wanted to make sure that it's within your knowledge of history. This german (no english version, sadly) Wikipedia article is very elaborate about the timeline of the NSDAP's rise to power: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronologie_der_nationalsozialistischen_Machtergreifung - this english article is the next best thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Hitler%27s_rise_to_power#Seizure_of_control_(1931–1933) Hitler initiated re-elections in 1933 trying to get an absolute majority, but even though he massively hindered all opposing parties' possibilities and campaigns, they failed to achieve absolute majority by 6.1%. They formed a coalition with the conservative party DNVP and illegally revoked opposing party KPD's mandates after the election. (Disclaimer: There will be misinterpretations and inaccuracies of the events in here; as I said, it's really complicated. But it's very much worth reading up on.)
