Who Shot Guybrush Threepwood 3 is live!

And it looks quite a bit different from last you looked at it! Check it out, show your friends.

Cheers, folks! I'm catching a plane to VidCon in a couple hours. Try not to have too much fun while I'm in the air.

Great video as usual! Too bad I didn't watch it earlier, I just finished an essay for college that touched on the definition of a video game genre, could have use citing you your your sources. Anyway, what is your take on people disagreeing on what a genre of a game is? I remember when I was a kid lots of people used to call Zelda an "RPG", which I found very confusing, and that have apparently changed since then. Similarly, nowadays I see people calling Ace Attorney a "visual novel" even though, for me, it is clearly an adventure game. Incidentally, visual novels are in themselves a good next step on discussing the fuzziness of "what is game", I think.

Also... 1 dimensional game! One direction in text is read in one direction, or one screen or statement to the next.

Hey! Space Quest was an Adventure game.

That's a lens I'm advocating for, yeah. I feel like I've heard of Mechanics Dynamics Aesthetics a bunch but can't remember actually reading it, and I do love Robin Hunicke so I'll give this a look!

Virginia! There are titles for all the games in the bottom right. :)

Fantastic deconstruction of how difficult it can be to categorize video games! I’m curious, a couple times you mention how difficult it is to describe the experience a game will provide by its mechanics or verbs. Could an alternative be describing the experience a game is intended to evoke? My favorite paper in game design, Mechanics Dynamics Aesthetics, attempts this. I find it helps define the vast differences in experience between mechanically similar games.

Loved it!! Welcome back 😃

Nice. Also, what game was it with the photos on the road and the cardinal in the furnace?

I was actually about to rewatch the rough cut when this came out - good timing for me on that one! :D

I love this (not completely through yet). Your increased level of satirical self-awareness serves your video really way, and makes it way less dry - which will become more and more important to care for the more long videos you make. So keep it up!

Wow. That's a bit different. Good to see you revisit this, though.
