Early Access: CO-VID on Dropsy and Alum

Hey all, this is done and going public tomorrow morning most likely. One of my more left-field subjects. Curious how it's going to go over.

Still looking for a title, all I've got so far is "Dropsy/Alum," which isn't very punchy. I think simply revealing what the video is actually about would bring in a lot of clicks, but it's a stronger essay if it's a reveal? Not sure how to straddle those lines.

If you've got suggestions, I wanna hear them!

Early Access: CO-VID on Dropsy and Alum

Comments

"Ancient Mechs For Jesus" or just "The Unfeigned Altruist" are a couple ideas that came to mind that I really like. both of them make much more direct reference to Alum than Dropsy but both give some hint at what the video might be about w/o spoiling the reveal. "Ancient Mechs For Jesus" uses the J word but it's so bombastically bizarre that personally I'd click a video w/ that title w/o feeling any certainty of wtf it was about, and certainly not expecting it to actually be substantively about JC. I like "The Unfeigned Altruist" as a title even more though. That phrase is a *very* interesting euphemism for JC, even tho it belongs entirely to Alum. Edit: "Hug Ancient Mechs For Jesus"? Serious suggestion? So anyway I was really glad to hear the fist-bump/hug consent thing it moved Dropsy from "game I'd never play on principal" to "game I can't play cause I'm flat broke and semi-homeless"...I find toothless freakish clowns terrifying and I really don't like to be hugged/touched except under very specific and rare circumstances by people extremely close to me, so a game where you just play a creepy ass morbidly obese clown that hugs people a lot sets off all my "ick" alarm bells. Thank you for explaining that detail, the first bump thing made a big difference. What game is that at the 7:00 mark?

Dragons In Dungeons

"Christianity: Crusade and Practice", maybe? That said I kind of like the symmetry of these games yanking you into a Christianity narrative without forewarning and your video doing the same, even though I know that doesn't drive clicks.

"Dropsy and Alum and the Messianic Adventure" "Dropsy/Alum: Two Gospels" There's gotta be a way to maybe get the idea in the title without using the J word and spilling all the beans.

Trevor Sullivan

My weird title suggestion: "Adventure Games 20:15"

I went to Christian School until I was 22 and stopped going to church after the 2016 election and this video has my seal of approval

"Mechanical Kindness" is a pretty good title.

Omigosh, plz don't put Jesus in the title. Your setup is fantastic and you lead the way there in a straightforward fashion. My double take when I saw Jesus? On the screen left me yearning to know how that's possible. If you say it in the title, you're almost forcing me to accept the analogy before even hearing what the games are about. I kinda like The Unfeigned Altruist as a title even tho it obv favors one of the two stories. Maybe The Golden Rule? Religion vs Praxis? Or Dogma vs Praxis?

Eric Hula

Never heard of either game but great video on them. Holy vs Spirit

Re: Titles, maybe "The Clown and the Convert" or "The Ludogospel according to Orsey and Tholen"? Love the vid btw, I played Dropsy ages ago because of one of your vids and I wish it was talked about more!

I don’t have any punchy headline ideas (could only think of They’re Both About Jesus), but re: mechanical kindness and lack of physical reward in Dropsy, I definitely felt that while playing A Short Hike, though ASH has a clearer path of progression. It was a really interesting mechanic that made that game stand out so much more to me.

"It' almost like there is no belief system under which people can't rationalise crappy behaviour." <---- SOLID GOLD.

I think there's definitely merits with either way; full burying the lede or 'signalling' the theme via the title to clear up any of the 'where are they going with this' in the opening. "Context of Kindness" for the former is what comes to mind for me, and the latter I just keep getting served snarky stuff like "Christian and Christ-out"
