Lost in Adaptation: Goldfinger

Finally got it to load and watch it. Just reaffirms my desire to avoid all things James Bond. (Did you know there's a cartoon called James Bond Jr, BTW?) I guess Fleming wouldn't be too happy to know it's been suggested James had sex with men in the newer movies. At least that's what the kids on Tumblr claim.

Dude,Bond is the ultimate misogynist.... at least in our time. Bear in mind that Fleming was a navel officer in the 1940s. His feeling towards women might have actually been considered progressive back then :P

Damn, was not expecting that of the novel

Oh dear I feel bad now for suggesting No Country for old men. That book is written in a very similar style.

I can't watch the video right now. :-( I'm in a place where the internet is slower than frozen molasses. But soon as I can I will.

Thanks for the review. You are right about the Fort Knox being heavily fortified. There are no Air Force bases near there but it was the main training ground for the M-1 Abrams tank. There are plenty of anti-aircraft artillery to take down any unidentified aircraft there. Thanks for recommending not to read the books. I will take them off my list.

Having never read the books, I have to ask...is Bond a raging misogynist? Even Daniel Craig, in a recent interview, has labeled him as such. I'm not a huge fan of the Sean Connery Bond having grown up in the Roger Moore era (yes, I like Moonraker). Overall, I really loved the video and can we have a "Pointless" T-Shirt soon? Keep up the great work!

I have to wonder if Fleming actually liked his main character. Read a few of the books and Bond really comes over as being the adult version of the sort of bullies Fleming went to school with.

Good review. Just one little typo "Quantum of Solace" in the end credits.

Thank you! I was contemplating reading a James Bond book. You've saved me from that! Whew!

Yay! It's so lovely to have you back--and a great review to come back on! I guess those who say "The book is always better than the movie" aren't always correct. ;)
