I remember going to see this film for school, and I feeling like I watched half a movie, because they didn't edit or pace it properly.

They capture the spirit of the work while elaborating in a way that only enhances the story. Overall I did enjoy these films very much, although was a bit mixed about the books themselves. You actually were not nitpicky at all considering how closely they skew to the source material. I have to say, I'm really enjoying the reviews of this series. I think this is some of your most entertaining work!
