Bo Saixi has no intention of getting friendly with those the island’s ‘new’ God sleeps with or whom he promises to sleep with. But by golly does he promise such a favor to many women!
“And then there’s Violet, who all but said out loud she would like some experience after she can resist Sun’s killing intent for the given time. Did I mention Sister Snow? She seems like the quiet type, but Sister Lana told me Sister Snow conversed with her almost daily about what to expect ever since Bing Bing started sleeping with him.”
“She did?” questions the gossiping mother as the daughter nods, chewing on her mother’s signature rabbit stew.
“Hum!” She nods cutely in front of her mother despite their ages beyond the confines of human limits. “Sister Lana tells me everything! Oh, and there is Lan Ruo and Sister Bai! If I had to guess, their biological clocks are ticking like crazy because of Sun. It’s not every day you meet with a Titled Douluo dealing fatal wounds to a God!”
Displaying more sensibility than usual, Xiao Wu admits her observation about how power is the primary factor for beasts compared to looks for humans when it comes to settling down around someone. Everyone has their kinks based on which one experiences attraction with another, and most female spirit beasts share a similar point of interest—power. If said spirit beasts are willing to explore more for their relationship or not is dependent on their nature.
BUT!
“Did I ask?” Bo Saixi questions, her legs numb from sitting in the same cross-legged position since she entered the so-called ‘Hypertonic Lion Tamer.’ To this day, Bo Saixi, in the seconds she doesn’t spend cultivating, wonders if Ja Sun experienced a stroke as he named this enchanting space-time artifact! But she won’t lose her brain cells over a sage’s naming sense—he must have a reason to anoint it in this manner.
‘A lion tamer, huh,’ Bo Saixi’s mind drifts as she glimpses enlightenment. ‘It couldn’t mean literally taming a lion, right?’ She only knows two, no three martial souls that relate to big cats—Ja Sun, Ja Yin, and—
‘Mine martial soul,’ her thoughts still as she defeats her bolder imagination instantly, snapping out of her thoughts as she hears Xiao Wu speak. “Well, you didn’t ask. But what good are we as neighbors if we don’t make you feel welcome? And you still don’t touch your lunch!”
Saixi looks down at her plate filled to the brim with rather tantalizing stew—based on scent alone.
“33rd.” Saixi whispers.
“Yes?” Xiao Bei questions. “Did you say something?”
“It’s the 33rd time you brought me carrots,” Bo Saixi reveals with a painful expression, minding her manners for not returning their kindness with rude remarks.
“Isn’t it great?” Xiao Wu grins. “We can train and eat all the carrots we like. My mother can even mimic boiled carrots as potatoes and sometimes meat~! Tell her, Mom!”
Xiao Bei nods with a gentle smile, “I practiced for years while Wu underwent her metamorphosis.”
“I see,” Bo Saixi slowly picks the spoon and starts eating reluctantly. ‘I should just enter my room and put a notice that I’m busy cultivating for a few days. But—’
Her gaze roams the plain room, where she sits on a mat. The light green walls feel soothing to the eye, and there’s a perpetual fresh wind blowing all around thanks to Ja Sun’s array, which makes cultivation a luxurious experience as long as one can stay in a single spot for long periods.
‘—They are already in my room! Where else am I supposed to hide at?’
Before Saixi can wallow in her misfortune of meeting the polar opposite pair as her cultivation neighbor, Xiao Wu speaks of a topic that catches Saixi’s interest.
“Mom, how long till you reach Rank 90? I’m already at Rank 59!”
Xiao Wu cannot inherently note a superior Spirit Master’s spirit rank despite being a former 100000-year-old Spirit Beast.
Xiao Bei grins. Her motherly yet youthful face brightens as she releases the breath of her cultivation.
Rank 90.
“Really?!” Unlike a usual Titled Douluo that reveals their cultivation to intimidate or outright subjugate their opponents, Xiao Bei unveils her cultivation more gently as she eats a spoonful of carrots. “Yes. Ja Sun always said my lack of human contact stunted my cultivation, but it would resume its original pace once I eventually got over that block. Truthfully, reaching this Island was a boon!”
A moment of envy seeps into Saixi’s emerald orbs before she shakes such feelings away. Her cultivation would return to its former peak eventually! But noting a topic she can finally contribute to, Bo Saixi attempts to nudge the mother-daughter duo into a more cultured conversation.
“He was not wrong,” The Priestess contemplates. “Heaven and Earth’s qi is present in the Spirit Energy we consume for our cultivation, most of which is concentrated within treasured ginsengs and minerals. But Humans naturally produce human qi. Large settlements see more talents easily due to Human Qi’s infection. I suppose you needed to assimilate with such nature once you metamorphosized into a human.”
Xiao Bei nods and demonstrates the folly and arrogance of Saixi’s hopes and dreams by starting this conversation as the rabbit mother sighs, muttering in vain, “But had I known mating as a beast with a prospective human was possible through an array, I would have never chosen this path.”
“I think it’s fun,” Xiao Wu blinks. “I never got a chance to find a mate as a beast. Or maybe I did? My memories are too blurry.”
“Probably because Sun quickened your process. But no, you didn’t. Er Ming and Da Ming were really protective of you.”
Xiao Wu deeply sighs while eating. “So, you’re leaving?”
“Right after lunch~!” Bei trills.
“It’s breakfast,” Saixi interjects.
“You… kept note of time?” Xiao Bei and Wu stare at Saixi with impressed looks as the latter mutters. “’Tis was the only way to keep my sanity in check.”
Xiao Bei doesn’t wait long to leave with an obvious pep in her step as if she’s been looking forward to ‘IT’ for a while.
“May I ask you something?” Bo Saixi regards Xiao Wu seriously. “You are older than I am—and by a stern margin, too.”
“You don’t have to put it like that!” Wu’s brows twitch. “I’m a young girl!”
“You were once easily above 10000 years,” Saixi replies calmly. “What I do not understand is—would it not be weird for you to share the same man with your mother?”
Xiao Wu stills before silently staring at Bo Saixi.
“What?”
*Stare*
“Did I say something wrong?”
*Stare*
“If you’re embarrassed to continue the topic, then I won’t mind if you leave my room without a word,” Bo Saixi encourages with evident hope in her voice.
*Stare*
“Just say something.”
Xiao Wu suddenly smirks, repeating the fact—
“We are or were, Rabbits. Don’t you know how the species’ system works?” Xiao Wu picks up her spoon before relishing her bite. “Yum!”
“I would regret asking you this, but what do you mean?” Bo Saixi releases a pained sigh.
“I’m Mother’s youngest. Essentially, that’s the only relationship we can be sure of since my Mother’s cycle grew longer due to her rise in cultivation. The stronger the spirit beasts are, the rarer their mating cycle until they are capable of full-fledged emotions and intelligence after breaking into the ranks of 100000-year-old beasts.”
Bo Saixi listens with a surreal experience blooming in her heart. Watching the prankster speak so eloquently feels amazing, even with her limited contact with the rabbit's daughter!
“And by that point, my mother had enough intelligence to care for her child actively instead of raising them for a few years and letting them find burrows of their own,” Wu sulks. “I never did find a mate that way because my father, who is or was my mother’s distant cousin from the same brood, I suppose, went missing. She never found him. Someone must have devoured him whole. And you know the rest.”
Xiao Wu points the slope of her spoon at Bo Saixi, “So, no. I don’t think I mind what issues you’re raising. Ja Sun says Heaven blesses us during our metamorphosis to redirect our emotions and make us more human. But it also purposely leaves the memories of our past lives as elusive dreams to give us a choice on what kind of path we wish to pursue. So, if Mom doesn’t mind, why should I? I’ve seen her mate with my dad many times before we became humans.”
Xiao Wu slowly stops speaking. She observes Bo Saixi’s dazed expression and the pink on the latter’s fair cheeks. A grin slips on her face as she leans forward without standing, “I’m sorry, but I think Mom will bring Ja Sun here.”
“What?” Bo Saixi snaps from her daze.
“Well, ten days here is a day outside. Our lifespan increases once we reach rank 90 and above, no? My mother is very sensible! She doesn’t want to keep Ja Sun from his wives and son for days! So, it’s better here, right? That’s why Sister Erlong, Zi Ji, Bing Bing, and the rest use the Hypertonic Lion Tamer every day.”
Bo Saixi pales as she questions after a minute.
“Daily?”
“Yes,” Wu nods. “Why do you think we bring you food? To distract ourselves.” She flashes a cute smirk and blinks with an upturned gaze as she sounds coquettish. “Ja Sun is still here. I think it’s Bing Bing’s turn today.”
Saixi’s lower lip wobbles. A look of horror flashes on her expression as her spoon drops on her plate.
‘While I use this Temple of Cultivation for its intended purposes, that man still finds a way to defile my experience with his debauchery!’ Yet her heart thumps when Xiao Wu enters her personal space, her round face mere inches from Saixi’s dignified features. “They could be in the adjacent room. Sister Lana tells me Bing Bing likes it when something larger and bolder presses on her from the back. But don’t tell anyone else, okay? Or Sister Bing will turn me into a popsicle for days!”
And now Saixi cannot take the image of the petite and short jade-haired Bing Bing taking that beast of the physique from behind with the most lurid expression the priestess can imagine from her earlier studies of biology and NOT at all a wee bit of spying on other couples during her early days!
