Hey there monkeys! Help me get to know you. Part of the fun of this community is me getting to interact with you and learn about the people that make it so amazing.

Share 1. Family holiday tradition you have, and if you’re a cook, share a dish you make that everyone looks forward to around the holidays!

Almost every year for Christmas, my family always gets a Lego set. We’ve started it as a family tradition and we spend the rest of the day putting it together. It’s a whole lot of fun.

That sounds delicious!

Aw that’s lovely Olivia!! Thanks for sharing!

My family doesn't have a lot of holiday traditions, but my dad and I always go every year together just the two of us to get our christmas tree, and then my whole family will decorate the tree together. On christmas day, we might have some traditional norwegian food (my dad is part norwegian), specifically Lefse. It's a very thin flatbread made from potato that you fry on a pan. My family likes to cover it in butter and cinnamon sugar!

I have a few traditions to share! My mom, twin bro and I kind of have this tradition of driving around looking at Christmas lights and if my younger brothers are back from school, they join us. We also have this tradition of opening one gift on Christmas Eve and that usually contains new pjs or new fuzzy socks! Even as an adult, I look forward to them! A newer tradition we have is me and my 3 brothers kind of do our own secret Santa between the four of us. As we get older, it gets better and better!!

We have a few things we do. Homemade tamales are a staple in the winter, but our major family holiday tradition is something we call the "Shepherd's dinner" where we eat real simple foods (nuts, dried fruit, hummus & pita, etc.) by candlelight or a campfire depending on where we are. It's just a time to be quiet during the busy holidays and spend time together without the glamor of modern celebrations.

Every year we'd go to the state capitol building and look at all the Christmas decorations and the lights that were put up and then we'd go and get a new ornament for our tree. We don't have a thematic tree like a lot of families. Ours is more our family story. The ornaments that always go on the tree first are my parents' wedding picture, then my first ornament, then my sister's, then my brother's. We don't have a specific order after that, but those four are always first.

I have 3 I guess? Though 1 is specific to me, rather than a family tradition. My dad will have a festival party, usually a week or so before Christmas, but around then, and my mom's family does a gift grab, where everyone around 17+ will do a lottery pull for a different family member to get something for. My personal thing is that I watch a version - any version - of the Nutcracker Christmas Eve.

always read the night before Christmas maybe you can look her over this year too

Well. My family is massive and we have a lot of traditions. As we got older we'd take responsibility for one thing. I got desserts. I make a pavlova and a multitude of pies, cakes, cokkies gingerbread people and house and all that. It can take me up to a week to make enough to feed my lot. It's so much more fun now because my kids get to "help" now too.

During the Christmas holidays my family makes fudge. We make a bunch and give it to Friends, Neighbors and Coworkers. It’s super yummy!

My family always watches The Muppets Christmas carol on Christmas day, never gets old! The only slightly different thing (probably other people do it as well) we do is we have Christmas dinner at lunchtime because my mum is a nurse who tends to work on Christmas in the evenings, so it means we can still enjoy it as a family.
